Materials Inspector

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• The Materials Inspector under general supervision, performs difficult and sometimes complex inspection tasks.
• Inspects various facets of work on the construction site and performs continuous surveillance of assigned construction activities to ensure compliance with all applicable codes, standards, and specifications.
• Documents nonconformance and may participate in determining appropriate resolution.
• Have full awareness of testing requirements.
• Check material submissions and properly process approvals.
• Visit factories to ensure proper manufacture and testing of materials produced.
• Ensure materials delivered are as approved and are properly stored.
• Assist in the development of testing procedures.
• Keep up-to-date with new appropriate materials.
  

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

• Diploma in Civil Engineering with minimum 7 years relevant experience in laboratory materials testing including field inspection of samples and materials. Familiarity with all asphalt concrete and soil materials used in highway and bridge construction.
• Familiarity with all asphalt concrete and soil materials used in highway and bridge construction.
• Must possess the ability to read working drawings and related specifications.
• Computer literacy and excellent communication skills are essential.
• Must be able to read and interpret blueprints and construction specifications and be thoroughly familiar with construction-related processes related to area of assignment.
