Job Summary

Plan, organize and direct the operations and activities of the Network Systems Group; responsible for the project management, design, implementation and operation of the University\'s wired network, wireless network, IP Telephony, Network Security (Firewalls, IPS/IDS, Load Balancers), Internet Access services, DNS, DHCP & IP address management, Blade/Standalone Servers, Storage Area Networks, Server, Authentication, Email and file services, Desktop, Storage and Network Virtualization services, Cloud computing services (self-provisioning portal), assuring reliable, secure access to IT infrastructure, planning Business Continuity/DR for infrastructure and Capacity.

Technical and IT Operations Management of University IT Infrastructure.

Project management of IT infrastructure projects.

Maintain and manage reliable and secure wired and wireless network infrastructure services and associated hardware components.

Maintain and manage network security components to ensure that university administrative and infrastructure systems are protected from internal and external threats.

Provide a reliable and secure IP Telephony service for all ZU employees and maintain and manage all communication links.

Maintain and manage external vendors and Service providers.

Maintain and continue the development of the University\'s voice and data network which includes: switches, routers, network servers, PBX, voice mail system and related peripherals, the fiber/wiring plant, network operating systems (Novell Netware and NT), and networked applications (e.g., MS Office).

Communicate with other administrators, University personnel and contractors to coordinate activities and programs, resolve issues and conflicts.

Inspire, develop, and manage staff using quality service techniques in order to provide timely and accurate end user systems and services and high levels of customer satisfaction.

Engage and participate in IT strategic planning, staff management, IT project management, budgeting, disaster recovery planning and management reporting.

Lead network system team, determine priorities, set team goals, manage resources, monitor day to day work activities and author management & project progress reports.

Direct the information and data integrity of the network, including data centers, communication networks and data center operations.

Contribute to the development of the business as usual and Capex IT budgets and develop proposals for supplementary expenditure and capital programs.

Provided leadership and consultation to the university leadership team in identifying, acquiring and implementing appropriate information systems and technology.

Oversee the development of \'Requests for Proposals\' and \'Requests for Tenders\' from vendors relating to IT infrastructure related capital acquisitions.

Manages and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; interview and select employees and recommend transfers, reassignment, termination, and disciplinary actions; plan, coordinate and arrange for appropriate training of subordinates; assist in the hiring and training of student assistants.

Participate in departmental budgeting and planning activities; control and authorize expenditures in accordance with established limitations.

Prepare and maintain a variety of narrative and statistical reports, records, and files related to assigned areas; prepare reports, articles, correspondence, and other materials.

Provide a reliable and secure IP Telephony service for all ZU employees and maintain and manage all communication links.

Maintain and manage external vendors and Service providers.

Required Skills

Bachelor\'s degree in an IT field from an accredited institution and 10 years of relevant experience with a minimum of five years working with the support of computer networks; Windows, Linux, VMware, HyperV, Cisco, HP.

Experience and knowledge using PMP, Prince2, Scrum project management methodologies.

Working knowledge of the technical and service issues of providing telephone and data services in a campus environment.

Knowledge & experience on the ITIL framework for IT service management.

Minimum of 5 years technical team leader and/or IT management experience.

Telephone switching technologies, IP based telephone & fax systems, Voicemail systems.

Virtualization technologies and cloud computing strategies.

Deployment and operation of microcomputers in a network system supporting multiple protocols, operating environments, and WAN connections.

Work with people in such a manner as to build high morale and group commitments to goals and objectives.

Define realistic, specific goals and objectives and prioritize them.

Identify problems and work with staff to recommend and implement solutions.

Communicate technical issues in a non-technical manner to clients.

Communicate client needs with appropriate specificity to the appropriate staff.

Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
