Job Description

Responsible for implementing data management and data governance best practices, and maintaining a common catalogue of data points and business terminology in order to support and improve data literacy of stakeholders. Liaise with business teams to advocate the importance of using the available data to make informed business decisions. Act as the bridge between business and technology teams to establish rules for the monitoring, collection, storage, protection and ownership of data, while solving complex data issues. Co-ordinate the drive to improve the long-term structure & use of data, rather than isolated fixes.

Key Accountabilities

Data Governance
  • Support the Executive - Data Governance to operationalize the documented data governance policies and procedures
  • Gathering, documenting, and reviewing requirements with various business and data owners across the organization. Providing necessary support and inputs in the implementation of / improvement of controls in areas of collection, storage, protection and usage of data, impacting their respective functions
  • Identification of areas where existing enterprise-level policies and procedures require change or where new ones need to be developed to ensure Data Governance objectives are met
  • Partnering with project teams to integrate governance practices as part of a project lifecycle
  • Perform regular compliance audits specific to the implemented controls and submit detailed audit reports to the Executive - Data Governance for review and action. Conducting sessions with owners of individual audit findings to discuss the root cause and agree on remediation steps
  • Be available for the sessions with Executive - Data Governance and Technical Data Stewards to listen to their ideas on how to leverage data to improve growth, customer experience, etc.
  • Ongoing communication and raising of awareness on some of the key elements of Data Governance framework - Data Quality, Master and Reference Data management, Data Catalogue, Dictionaries, Lineages, etc. to improve adoption of data standards
  • Optimal utilization of the Data Governance tools procured by the Bank
Data Catalogue, Business Glossary & Data Dictionary

Own and be accountable for the upkeep of the Business Glossary and be a custodian of the Business Glossary to ensure all the business terms are well defined and its relation with sources is clear for it to act as a source for the respective data owners to prepare data dictionary

Work collaboratively with Data Owners and Technical Data Stewards for developing the following artefacts:
  • Data Catalogue and Data Lineages
  • Data Flow Diagrams / Maps
  • Data Dictionary
  • Business Glossary
Master Data Management (MDM)
  • Demonstrate active ownership of master data domains, processes, and procedures
  • Managing the ongoing maintenance of master data sets along with data owners and ensure an oversight through periodic audits on the quality of data assets maintained in the master data catalogue
  • Work with cross functional business teams to understand changing business requirements and impacts to master data
Other Accountabilities

Data Quality
  • Development of a data quality policies & standards along with Executive - Data Governance to make data fit for purpose based on data consumers requirements. Implement processes to measure, monitor and report on data quality levels
  • Facilitate governance over subsets of data to ensure quality across business processes through collaboration with Data Owners
  • Conducting regular compliance audits specific to the implemented standards and specifications for data quality controls and submit detailed audit reports to the Executive - Data Governance for review and action. Conduct sessions with owners of individual audit findings to discuss the root cause and agree on remediation steps
  • Identifying and advocating for opportunities to improve the quality of data, through changes to processes and systems and engaging in activities that measurably improve the quality of data
Support in the creation and submission of the reports / discussion packs for Data Governance Task Force (DGTF) & other governance committees

Work collaboratively with the DGTF members on the problem statements discussed during the forum ensuring compliance with service level agreements, documentation requirements and the policies related to data management and governance.

Education

A minimum bachelor\'s degree in a business related field or equivalent

Experience and Skills

Education level (Required/Equivalent)
Bachelors/ Master Degree in Business Administration

Work Experience (Required)
Minimum 8-10 years post qualification experience preferably in banking industry. Functional understanding of data management and data quality practices. Prior experience of working in projects related to improvement of data quality, especially in customer centric applications, and enhancement of linked processes and systems would be an added advantage.

Knowledge, Skills and Attributes (Required)
  • Good understanding of business architectures related to customer applications (including key internal business processes and application interactions
  • Strong MS Excel, MS PowerPoint skills
  • Strong verbal, written and presentation communication skills with ability to work across multiple departments, particularly with Finance, Technology, Business and Operations
  • Strong business acumen & interpersonal skills to interface with senior leadership around socializing business data requirements, program roadmaps, data effort priorities, etc
  • Planning and organizing skills
