Conventional Lathe Operator (Preferably with Oilfield Experience)
Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Conventional Lathe Operator to produce precision components using manual lathe machines. Preference will be given to candidates with prior experience in the
oil & gas or oilfield equipment
manufacturing sector. The ideal candidate should have a solid understanding of machining tolerances, materials used in oilfield tools (like carbon steel, stainless steel, and alloy steels) and be able to interpret technical drawings accurately.
Key Responsibilities:
Set up and operate conventional lathe machines to perform turning, facing, threading (internal & external), grooving, and drilling operations.
Machine components such as
subs, collars, drill stem components, valves, and flanges
used in oilfield applications.
Read and interpret mechanical drawings, technical specifications, and job cards.
Select appropriate tools, feeds, and speeds based on material type and job requirements.
Ensure parts meet dimensional accuracy and surface finish requirements using micrometres, vernier callipers, and other precision measuring instruments.
Perform threading as per
API standards
(e.g., API IF, REG, PAC) where required.
Follow safety procedures and company quality standards at all times.
Assist in routine machine maintenance and keep the work area clean and organized.
Collaborate with QC inspectors and supervisors to resolve machining or quality issues.
Qualifications and Skills:
High school diploma or ITI / diploma in mechanical or machining trades.
Minimum
3-5 years
of hands-on experience operating conventional lathes.
Previous experience in oilfield machining or API tool threading is highly preferred.
Strong understanding of materials commonly used in oilfield components.
Ability to read engineering drawings and apply tolerances correctly.
Good communication skills and ability to follow work instructions.
Physically fit and safety conscious.
Working Conditions:
Workshop-based role with exposure to oilfield-grade metals, cutting oils, and heavy machinery.
Must wear PPE and follow HSE protocols at all times.
May involve shift work or overtime depending on workload.
