The Lifting Operator is responsible for overseeing the set-up, maintenance safe and efficient operations of the lifting equipment. He is responsible for coordinating and supervising all lifting activities in the project in a manner that ensures total safety during the task and complies with local regulations, client and the AATC standards.
Prepare lifting plans prior to executing lifting of heavy equipment and submit to clients for approval.
Arrange site location for crane positioning as per approved rigging plan.
Inspect all rigging accessories to be used as per safety precautionary measured before lifting is to be done.
Perform daily inspection on all mobile cranes and tower cranes or any other lifting equipment's used in the project
Ensure that the operators of mobile cranes conduct pre-operation check using company prescribed checklist.
Perform daily toolbox talk to the crane operators and the riggers cum signalmen.
Ensure that only registered crane operators, appointed riggers cum signalmen engage in any lifting operation involving the use of a mobile/ crawler crane
Ensure that the ground conditions are safe for any lifting operation to be performed by any mobile crawler crane.
Brief all crane operators, riggers / signalmen on the safe lifting procedures mentioned in the company safe work procedure.
Check the load and riggings to ensure that the load can be lifted and moved safely by any mobile/ crawler crane or tower crane
Prepare and inspect rigging equipment before use to ensure it is safe and functional.
Set up rigging for lifting and moving heavy equipment, materials, or structures on construction projects
Select the appropriate rigging gear (e.g., slings, shackles, chains, wire ropes) based on the load's weight and dimensions.
Attach and secure loads to cranes or other lifting devices following strict safety procedures.
Signal or communicate with crane operators to guide the movement of loads during lifting operations.
Safely dismantle rigging equipment and store it after use.
Collaborate with crane operators and other team members to execute lifts efficiently and safely.
Conduct inspections of rigging equipment regularly and report any damages or maintenance needs.
Ensure compliance with industry safety standards and follow all site-specific safety protocols.
Assist in the loading and unloading of heavy materials and machinery at project sites.
Rigger Experience:
Experience working with heavy machinery, including cranes and hoisting equipment.
Thorough knowledge of rigging equipment and lifting techniques.
Familiarity with load-bearing capacities and different types of rigging gear.
Ability to read and interpret load charts, rigging plans, and work instructions.
Strong understanding of safety regulations in lifting operations (e.g., OSHA standards).
Capable of working at heights and in confined spaces.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with crane operators and the rigging team.
Expertise in rigging techniques and equipment.
Strong physical fitness and stamina for handling heavy loads and working in challenging conditions.
Teamwork and coordination skills.
High attention to detail and commitment to safety.
Effective communication and hand signaling skills
Co-ordinate and be present to supervise all lifting activities in accordance with the lifting plan.
Ensure that only registered and appointed crane operator, certified signaler and rigger participate in any lifting operation involving the use of any cranes.
Check and ensure proper ground conditions are suitable and safe for any lifting operations.
Check the validity of lifting machine certificate by Approved Person and maintenance inspection program.
Ensure that safe lifting procedures are in order for any lifting operation.
If unsafe conditions are reported, to take suitable measures to rectify the conditions so that the lifting operation can be conducted safely.
In any situation where immediate rectification cannot be done, ensure that all necessary measures are taken to make the situation and area safe before reporting to his supervisor.
Wear reflective vest and/or any other PPE specified by the company to be identified as a lifting supervisor during lifting operation.
Ensure compliance to relevant government regulations and company's quality, safety, health and environmental (QSHE) policies, practices and procedures at all times.
Requirements:
Minimum 5 years relevant experience in a marine or related industry.
Must have approved LEEA certificate.
Completed WSQ Rigging and Signalman course.
Completed Lifting Supervisors Safety course
Completed Shipyard Safety Supervisor course.
Good supervisory, communication skills.
A team player with the ability to work independently as well as in a team.
