JOB TITLE
Legal Counsel & Data Privacy Officer | Majid Al Futtaim Lifestyle | Legal
ROLE SUMMARY
The Legal Counsel is responsible for providing comprehensive legal services across all business functions including managing contracts, disputes and advising on legal issues. The role also encompasses oversight of data privacy compliance, ensuring adherence to applicable laws and industry best practices.
ROLE PROFILE

• Review and negotiate Heads of Terms and franchise agreements with international franchisors, ensuring terms are commercially beneficial, minimize legal risks, and support global expansion.
• Act as a trusted legal advisor across all business units, providing proactive, solutions-focused counsel on complex legal matters spanning commercial, regulatory, and intellectual property domains.
• Manage data breach responses, ensuring timely reporting and corrective actions.
• Translate legal documents from English to Arabic and vice versa.
• Monitor regional and global legislative developments, recommending legal adjustments to maintain compliance and mitigate risks across all business areas.
• Support internal audits, regulatory inquiries, and investigations related to franchising operations, employment practices, and business conduct.
• Oversee and ensure employee training on data privacy best practices and manage data subject rights requests and data breach responses to ensure compliant, proactive actions.
• Lead or contribute to training sessions for franchisees and internal stakeholders, including labour law, compliance, contract basics, and dispute resolution.

REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor's degree of Law
• Certifications such as CIPM or CIPP/E are a plus
• 3-5 years of experience as legal counsel, with in-house experience.
• Retail experience is a plus
• A minimum of one year of demonstrated experience in privacy compliance, or a related field.
• Familiarity with data protection technologies (DLP, encryption, anonymization, etc.)
