Legal Counsel Ezra, a leading B2B fintech company with offices in Kenya and Dubai is seeking to employ a Legal Counsel for our Legal Department to be based in Dubai. Ezra overview Ezra provides B2B digital lending solutions for emerging markets in partnership with mobile and digital wallet operators and financial service providers. Ezra supports 24 operations in 23 countries, across Africa, the Middle East and Asia. Our key office locations are in Nairobi, Kenya and Dubai, UAE. Our flagship products are Advance Credit Service (ACS), Nano and BNPL.
- ACS is an airtime or data advance offered to prepaid mobile subscribers at the point of low credit.
- Nano is a micro cash advance offered to mobile wallet users on demand.
- BNPL facilitates payment installments for products and services
- Drafting, reviewing, vetting, and negotiating a wide range of commercial legal agreements in connection with services related to credit lending, technology, telecommunications, payment, fintech, data protection and privacy.
- Critically analyzing and interpreting legal issues arising in each geographic/regional area with regards to the operations of the Company in that area.
- Providing strategic legal and commercial advice to sales and product teams.
- Conducting research on various topics of the law.
- Provide legal support to all departments of the Company.
- Drafting contract templates for new services and updating existing ones to ensure compliance with new regulations.
- Coordinating the execution of agreements and legalization of documents with colleagues and counterparties.
- Supporting the General Counsel with a wide range of general legal, commercial, company secretarial, intellectual property related matters, litigious and regulatory compliance matters.
- Holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from an accredited institution.
- Admitted attorney of a competent court.
- 3-5 years PQE within the technology and/or fintech industries.
- Strong contractual skills with demonstrated experience with drafting, negotiating, and reviewing commercial and IT related contracts.
- Able to work under pressure and manage own workload
- Passionate about technology and start-ups
- Knowledge and understanding of both common law and civil law systems
- Fluent in English essential
- Attention to detail is indispensable.
- Good communication, presentation, writing, research, and analytical skills.
- Good grasp of the law, in interpretation as well as application.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with cross-functional teams.
- Proactive and self-motivated.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to deliver good quality work under strict deadlines.
- Keenness to learn more and take up new challenges and possess the attitude to make that extra effort.
