Job Description

Our client operates in more than 100 countries. This is an exciting opportunity for a legal counsel to join a FTSE100 company. The perfect candidate will be a qualified lawyer with 2-5 years post-qualified (in-house) experience and a good knowledge of commercial and contract and data privacy laws. The role requires excellent drafting and communication skills, an ability to work in a fast-moving international environment with a proven track record of sharp attention to detail. The Legal Counsel will report directly to Regional Counsel, also based in the UAE .
Responsibilities
Commercial Contracts
  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a range of commercial contracts including contracts for the sale and purchase of goods and services, consultancy contracts, cooperation agreements, IT agreements and NDAs;
  • Liaising with internal teams (e.g. Sales, Tax, Procurement, IT, HR, Finance) as needed.

Regulatory/compliance
  • Ensuring all company policies and procedures are kept up to date because of changes in and to all applicable laws including bribery, anti-corruption, data protection, modern slavery etc.;
  • Updating contracts in line with legislative updates in particular with the GDPR;
  • Contributing to the development of the Group Data Protection Strategy;
  • Developing and maintaining training and guidance materials to ensure increased visibility and awareness of data protection and compliance risks across the business;
  • Identifying gaps in knowledge and training requirements across the business;
  • Developing and maintaining Privacy Impact Assessments and Risk Assessment Tools and complete as required.

Ad Hoc Legal Support
  • Advising on the day-to-day legal and compliance queries across the different business lines and jurisdictions where the Group operates;
  • Liaising with the other legal teams based in Europe, Asia, UAE and the US;
  • Assisting Group on ad hoc international projects and transactions as required;
  • Assisting on ad hoc complaints, claims or threats and problem solving across the Group;
  • Developing and implementing company policies and procedures and internal precedents.

Key Relationships
  • Required to liaise with others inside/outside the department in a proactive and reactive manner in order to provide or obtain information to keep people informed so that work is completed effectively
  • The job holder will also build relationships and contacts to facilitate future exchange of information.

Requirements
  • Law degree from the UK – essential
  • 2-3 years’ previous in-house experience in commercial law / contracts
  • Exposure to and a solid understanding of the GDPR/ data protection regulations
  • Excellent drafting skills
  • Any European language skills would also be highly beneficial
  • Ability to communicate effectively across all business functions/ jurisdictions
