Job Overview
As the Legal Counsel and Data Privacy Officer at Majid Al Futtaim Lifestyle, you will play a strategic role in safeguarding the business through expert legal advice and compliance frameworks. Your responsibilities will span contract negotiation, regulatory guidance, privacy policy implementation, and training facilitation. This role is ideal for a legal professional with experience in retail and a strong understanding of data protection practices.
Key Responsibilities

• Draft, review, and negotiate Heads of Terms and franchise agreements with international franchisors
• Provide business-centric legal advice across commercial, employment, regulatory, and IP matters
• Monitor regional/global legal changes and advise on necessary policy or operational adjustments
• Lead investigations and responses for data breaches and ensure compliance with reporting obligations
• Translate legal documents between Arabic and English with precision
• Coordinate internal audits and regulatory reviews related to franchise and operational compliance
• Conduct training for employees and franchisees on legal basics, labour law, dispute resolution, and data privacy
• Ensure compliance with global and local data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, DIFC Data Protection Law)
• Oversee data subject rights requests and maintain documentation for compliance activities
• Implement best practices in data handling, including encryption and anonymization strategies

Job Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Law; certification in CIPM or CIPP/E is a plus
• 3-5 years of experience as legal counsel, with in-house experience preferred
• At least 1 year of focused experience in data privacy or related compliance fields
• Knowledge of data protection technologies such as DLP and encryption
• Familiarity with retail industry legal needs and franchising agreements is an advantage
• Strong negotiation, documentation, and communication skills
• Fluent in both English and Arabic (mandatory for document translation and legal drafting)
• Ability to balance legal risk with commercial strategy
