Job Description

Wood in the UAE is looking to expand its Engineering capabilities in Abu Dhabi to address a significant pipeline of Offshore Oil and Gas facilities expansion projects, building on the current local capabilities and the wide experience available in the other Wood centers of excellence including in the UK and USA.

In support of this plan, we are looking for experienced Lead Structural Designer with proven track record in the marine environment with ADNOC and other client in the Middle East and globally.

Main Job Purpose

+ Acting as Lead Structural Designer.

+ Planning and scheduling of discipline activities and deliverables, including man-hour estimating when required to support bids / tenders.

+ Manages discipline work to the required schedule and man-hour allocation, including requesting personnel as identified by the plan and day to day supervision of structural discipline personnel on the project. This includes approval of time sheets, holiday approval and overtime approval where delegated

+ Manages the discipline designers to ensure schedule milestones are achieved and man-hour budgets are effectively controlled

+ Acting as discipline approver (and originator where necessary) for all structural engineering drawings and MTO. Incorporating check and IDC comments

+ Prepare sketches, structural drawings, MTO and designs from agreed work scopes with minimum input from engineering personnel

+ Responsible for assessing effectiveness of working practices and systems with a view to continuously improving systems, personal and team performance

+ Carry out site surveys

+ Ensure, as far as is practically possible, that all assigned work is carried out in compliance with the agreed budget and schedule

+ Maintain filing system

+ Coordinates with all disciplines (as necessary) in the preparation and development of the deliverables and ensuring that the other disciplines' input is incorporated

+ Ensures structural compliance with structural specifications as well as applicable code requirements and national /international standards

+ Review all relevant client provided data for structural implications and requirements.

+ Reports on work status/ problem areas / needs

+ Assist Lead / Senior Engineer and others when requested in the execution of their responsibilities and duties

+ Responsible as work-share coordinator providing engineering, design, procurement and construction support services.

+ The candidate should be Diploma in Civil Engineering, with minimum 15 years of industrial experience in the Oil and Gas industry with extensive experience in the draughting of offshore structures, mainly jackets and topsides of wellhead platform's, bridges. Experienced both in greenfield and brownfield scope of work through the Concept, FEED and Detailed Design phases.

+ Experienced in the 3D modelling system to produce required documents such as material take-offs, plot plan, elevation and sectional drawings, isometric drawings and reports

+ Experienced to extract drawings in E3D draw as a minimum structural framing plan and plot plan

+ Sound knowledge of manual and CAD draughting techniques

+ Software skills like AUTOCAD, MICROSTATION, etc is mandatory

+ 3D Software skills like SP3D, PDS/ AVEVA 3D latest version software (AVEVA E3D), Navisworks is mandatory

+ Must have good experience on the topsides, jackets and appurtenances of wellhead platforms, bridges, bridge supporting towers, tie-in modification.

+ Aware of and able to use codes of practice, standards, and relevant sections of statutory documentation as applicable to draughting function

+ Aware of and able to use COMPANY and CLIENT standards

+ Able to create base design drawings / models from agreed work scope with minimal guidance

+ Computer literate (database / spreadsheets)

+ Ability to accept delegated responsibility for designated tasks

+ Experience in acting as a focal point / self-checking / checking of others work

+ Experience in UAE and ADNOC would be desired.

+ The candidate must have the leadership quality to effectively manage a team of designers to deliver to the committed project schedule, cost and quality requirements, and to be confident in managing relationships with the client and internal Wood stakeholders

+ The candidate must lead the team through adherence to Wood policies, standards, and procedures and lead by examples in ethical conduct
