Due to a large expansion of facilities, we are currently seeking to employ a range of experienced personnel for posts within Jumeirah College, Dubai. These appointments are for September 2023 start. Jumeirah College is a GEMS Premium Secondary School which delivers the National Curriculum for England, offering the full range of GCSE and A level courses. The Post: Lead Practitioner, English
As per DFE guidance, lead practitioners should take a leadership role in developing, implementing and evaluating policies and practice in their workplace that contribute to school development. At Jumeirah College we expect this to include:
Coaching, mentoring and induction of teachers Disseminating materials and advising on practice, research and CPD provision Assessment and impact evaluation, including through demonstration lessons and classroom observation Supporting the school in provision of high-quality schemes of work to reduce workload Supporting teachers who are seeking to develop their practice
Additional duties relevant to the role in modelling and leading improvement of teaching skills may be included as appropriate to the candidate\xe2\x80\x99s experience.
Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Teaching allocation: up to 15 lessons
  • Leading steering groups and PD on Pedagogy and Practice
  • Curriculum area teaching and learning support for a whole team or on an individual basis
  • Support in the implementation of whole-college initiatives
  • Individual staff support/instructional coaching
  • Whole college INSET planning and delivery
  • Co-ordinating the learning and teaching network with TLR holders from each curriculum team

We are looking to appoint an outstanding Lead Practitioner in English to join the College. English offers three distinct A Levels within the department, so this is a fantastic opportunity to teach English Literature, Language or both to an advanced level. Behaviour in the College is \xe2\x80\x98outstanding\xe2\x80\x99 and the positive relationships between student and teacher, alongside the highly motivated students means that teachers can focus on teaching their passion.
The successful candidate will work in an exceptional department. In 2022 the results were outstanding. 54% of GCSE English Language results were at 9-7, 94% were at 9-6. 59% of English Literature grades were at 9-7, and 96% were at 9-6. In A Level Literature students achieved 79% A*-B, and in A Level Language students achieved 75% A*-B.
The opportunities which English presents for students is central to the philosophy of the school. As a result, this appointment is crucial to the continued development of Jumeirah College.
The successful applicant will be required to have the following:
  • A B.Ed. or degree and PGCE / PGDE or equivalent with exceptional subject knowledge.
  • At least 2 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience of the National Curriculum for England.
  • Experience teaching GCSE and A-Level.
  • We are seeking to appoint talented, highly motivated and well-qualified individuals. You should have a proven track record of outstanding learning and teaching.
  • A mindset which understands all students have the potential for top performance, and the drive and passion to enable them to do so.
  • Experience which will enable a contribution to our enriched curriculum programme.
  • Experience as a Lead Practitioner is preferred but not required.

The salary scale for this position is commensurate with the quality of candidate we are seeking.
