Lead Mechanical And Piping Engineer – Shipyard Design

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:



Lead the mechanical and piping design activities for new shipbuilding and retrofit projects, ensuring compliance with project specifications and regulatory standards. Develop and review engineering deliverables including: Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) 3D piping models and system layouts Equipment arrangement drawings Pipe routing plans and isometrics Bill of Materials (BOMs) Prepare technical agreement for major equipment's Ensure alignment of design with classification society requirements (e.g., ABS, DNV, LR, BV) and international marine standards (e.g., IMO, SOLAS, MARPOL). Collaborate with naval architects, structural engineers, and electrical teams to integrate mechanical and piping systems into the vessel's overall design. Coordinate with procurement, production, and QA/QC teams to support construction and commissioning activities. Review vendor documents and equipment specifications for mechanical systems including pumps, HVAC, engines, valves, and auxiliary systems. Perform or supervise piping stress analysis and mechanical calculations as needed. Participate in design reviews, client meetings, and site visits to ensure project goals are met. Mentor junior engineers and guide drafting teams to ensure consistent and quality design output.

Requirements:



Education & Experience:



Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Marine Engineering. 8-12 years of experience in mechanical and piping design, with at least 3 years in a shipyard or marine design environment. Strong understanding of ship systems: HVAC, fuel oil, seawater cooling, bilge and ballast, firefighting, compressed air, etc.

Skills:



Proficient in ship design and piping software (e.g., AVEVA Marine, AutoCAD, ShipConstructor, FORAN, Tribon, or similar). Familiarity with piping standards (ASME, ASTM, ISO) and ship classification rules. Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to manage deadlines and multi-disciplinary coordination effectively.

Preferred Qualifications:



Professional Engineer (PE) or Chartered Engineer status. Familiarity with 3D model review tools (e.g., Navisworks, AVEVA Review). Prior experience in EPC or turnkey shipbuilding projects.

Pay: Up to AED15,000.00 per month
