Description

THE ROLE

We currently have an opportunity for someone to join Liberty steel as a Lead Engineer, Electrical Services and Weighfitting. The Lead Engineers purpose is to manage the Low Voltage, Process Control and Weigh Fitting Teams in Central Engineering to provide effective multi-disciplined, maintenance, calibration, and repair facilities to Speciality Steels Sites. * Low voltage provides an electrical repair and installation service to Rotherham site for all central infrastructure and test house. Services include a business wide PAT testing facility.

  • Process Control comprises a service department providing the testing, maintenance, calibration, quality assurance and development of a wide range of process control equipment on Rotherham site.
  • Weighfitting comprises a service department providing the maintenance, quality assurance and development of a wide range of weigh equipment within Speciality Steel, covering all manufacturing sites including our site at Wednesbury.
The job holder must ensure that the department operates within agreed financial, operational, safety and environmental targets.

Responsibilities * To ensure that plant, departmental personnel, and contractors operate within and comply with both company policy and statutory Health, Safety and Environmental legislation.
  • To ensure that maintenance and quality assurance services for the process control and weigh equipment, across all the company sites, are carried out and consistent with all relevant procedures, legislation, standards, behaviours, and performance targets.
  • Ensure best practice on the testing of portable electrical appliances across the business
  • Ensure Central LV infrastructure complies with the Electricity at Work Regulations (1989) and other statutory legislation.
  • Contribute to the team's continuous improvement of plant and equipment, to implement and identify improvements.
  • To maintain asset availability and efficiency through planned and reactive maintenance activities, considering the company asset management framework (CAMF), statutory responsibilities, plant histories, fault finding techniques, delay analyses and using own knowledge of process, and plant.
  • Support the development of Staff, Technicians, Graduates, and Apprentices.
  • Ensure the team achieve their full working potential through ongoing reviews, appraisals, and PDPs, addressing any knowledge and skills gaps that may be in evidence.
  • Support the operations of the Engineering Services Department to achieve business plans, including the adherence of departmental budgets, to meet annual targets and agreed operating standards relating to costs.
  • The Lead Engineer is responsible for managing staff and craft labour resources
  • The Department must comply with the requirements of various quality standards including ISO45001, ISO14001, ISO9001:2015 and IATF16949 and will be subject to regular auditing for which evidence of compliance must be provided.
  • The Engineer plays a key role in continuous Improvement initiatives within their area of control and the wider Engineering Services Dept.
  • The Engineer is responsible for implementing safe working practices and procedures within his department to comply with all aspects of Health and Safety and Environmental legislation.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS * The role requires an individual who is capable of managing, motivating and developing a multi-functional workforce.
  • The jobholder will have a strong engineering management background together with practical and technical knowledge of Electrical, Instrumentation and Control, Weighing Systems, Process Safety, Security and Fire Systems.
  • They should be a strong communicator, effective man-manager and possess good leadership skills.
  • An Engineering degree is preferred, together with proven experience at supervisory level.
  • The jobholder should have the market and industry knowledge and experience to be able to source best technology, materials and services to support the work of their teams.
  • A detailed knowledge of Health and Safety and Environment legislation is desirable with an ability to implement the requirements as part of departmental operations.
  • The individual needs to be able to develop best practice maintenance techniques and repair services within the constraints of agreed budgets and developing and managing resources that meet the requirements and expectations of the business.
