Lead Electrical Engineer - Energy Division - Dubai, UAE
Position Overview
Azizi Developments is expanding into the energy sector and is hiring a Lead Electrical Engineer to join the Energy Division in Dubai, UAE. This role will focus on the design, review, and execution of electrical systems for power generation projects across thermal, solar PV, wind, gas, hydro, and hybrid technologies. The Lead Electrical Engineer will ensure reliable grid integration, code compliance, and efficient operation of electrical infrastructure from concept through commissioning.

Core Duties

• Lead and review electrical design for power generation facilities including switchgear, transformers, protection systems, SCADA, and interconnection facilities
• Define specifications for electrical equipment, cable sizing, grounding, lighting, and grid compliance
• Review and approve design packages, single-line diagrams (SLDs), load flow, short-circuit, arc flash, and protection coordination studies
• Supervise installation, testing, and commissioning of electrical works during project execution
• Coordinate with utilities, transmission system operators, and regulators for interconnection, synchronization, and grid compliance approvals
• Oversee FATs, SATs, and performance testing of electrical systems and equipment
• Work with procurement and project management teams to manage technical risks, delays, and design changes
• Ensure compliance with international and local standards (IEC, IEEE, NEC, NFPA) and internal QA procedures
• Lead technical due diligence, risk assessments, and value engineering reviews
• Manage and mentor a team of electrical engineers, coordinating across civil, mechanical, and automation teams
• Represent the owner in meetings with EPC contractors, OEMs, consultants, and regulatory authorities

Candidate Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (Master's preferred)
• Minimum 10 years of electrical engineering experience, with at least 5 years in power generation or transmission and distribution projects
• Strong knowledge of high- and medium-voltage systems, substation design, relay protection, and grid integration
• Proficiency in ETAP, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, PSCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, or equivalent software
• Experience in EPC, owner's engineer, or utility-side roles on large-scale energy projects
• Familiarity with PPAs, interconnection agreements, and utility approval processes

Preferred

• Hands-on experience with renewable energy projects (solar, wind, hybrid)
• Knowledge of battery energy storage systems (BESS) and hybrid controls
• Professional Engineer (PE), Chartered Engineer (CEng), or equivalent certification
• Knowledge of SCADA, communication protocols, and cybersecurity standards (IEC 61850, Modbus, DNP3)
• Familiarity with permitting, HSE, and environmental considerations for electrical works
