As a global team The Customs Center of Excellence manages all customs operations for MENAT and SSA. We are responsible for clearing and delivering shipments as well as reviewing data and analytics to streamline process. As an operational and strategic team, we collaborate across the business to ensure smooth service delivery for our customers.

As a Lead Customs Specialist you will play an integral role in ensuring the logistics and customs clearance and successful shipment of our energy products across international borders. You will collaborate with teams to guide and resolve any problems that occur during shipping and receivership. You will help to deliver our products across the world.
As a Lead Customs Specialist, you will be responsible for:

  • Providing direction, counsel, creates and executes on customs strategy affecting customs transactions on behalf of Baker Hughes businesses.
  • Advising Functional managers or other Functions regarding approaches, processes, and procedures in the own field.
  • Handling communication with direct colleagues and the business about approach and methods for solving complex problems.
  • Leading as a project leader of medium sized projects or is a major contributor to bigger projects. Work goals typically take 3-6 months to complete and the time horizon for results/impact is typically 2-12 months after the event
  • Managing duty exemption, Free Trade Agreements and duty refund opportunities
  • Review and manage inbound shipments for customs clearance formalities. Ensure the accuracy and integrity of data with customs brokers.
  • Ensure broker adhere to BH audit and compliance process and procedures
  • Monitor and track critical shipments and resolve problems when necessary
  • Reviewing and managing Key Performance Indication.
  • Reviewing and managing Broker Invoices.
  • Work closely with classification team as it relates to the request & receipt Harmonized Tariff Schedule codes, Schedule B codes, ECCN or other codes & schedules.
  • Working directly with Customs & Govt entities in case of requirements.
  • Managing Logistics Suppliers & Customs Brokers.
  • Support the region and act as primary point of contact for internal stakeholders, customers and vendor queries.

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Have a Bachelor's degree or a High School Diploma/GED with demonstrable experience in Regional Logistics and Customs Operations
  • Have at least 6 years of experience in Logistics and Customs Operations.
  • Have previous experience in Oil and gas is preferred.
