Job Description
Clinical Activities:
Identifies the patient - comparing patient information on the requisition to the patient\xe2\x80\x99s identification before venipuncture is performed.
Performs venipunctures and skin punctures competently and expediently.
Demonstrates complete knowledge about which color top tube to use and the volume of blood needed - knows test requirements, assists in Clinical Laboratory as needed.
Responsible for bleeding time tests, blood cultures, blood samples collection and looks after the blood collection room requirements and maintains cleanliness and decorum of blood collection rooms.
Maintains specimen integrity by using aseptic technique, following department procedures; observing isolation procedures.
Collects therapeutic drug-monitoring assays by collaborating with nursing personnel to ensure appropriate drug dose to collection time.
Tracks collected specimens by initialing, dating, and noting times of collection; maintaining daily tallies of collections performed.
Monitors glucose levels by performing bedside glucose tests; recording results; reporting results to unit nurse-manager.

Follows the appropriate procedure for obtaining and returning or cleaning / disposing of equipment and supplies.
Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations.
Participates in Quality improvement projects and KPI\xe2\x80\x99s.
Resolves unusual test orders by contacting the physician, pathologist, nursing station, or reference laboratory; referring unresolved orders back to the originator for further clarification; notifying supervisor of unresolved orders.
Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
Serves and protects the hospital community by adhering to professional standards, hospital policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and JCI standards.
Enhances phlebotomy department and hospital reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
Fosters and facilitates peer teaching activities in a clinical setting.

- QUALIFICATION, LICENSURE, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SPECIAL SKILLS
Associate Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology; Diploma in Nursing.
At least two (2) years of experience especially in the field of phlebotomy.
Currently licensed in country of origin and with HAAD license to practice in Abu Dhabi UAE.
Ability to review procedures and implement new models of service delivery to satisfy client and organizational requirements.
Demonstrated commitment to quality outcomes and ability to consult with staff regarding continuous improvement.
Excellent command of oral and written English. Arabic language advantageous/desirable but not essential.
Possess a \xe2\x80\x9ccan do\xe2\x80\x9d and flexible approach.
Ability to demonstrate highly developed communication and organizational skills at all levels.
Ability to provide compassionate care that is respectful to patients\xe2\x80\x99 preferences.
Ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision and in a team within a complex clinical setting.
- Demonstrates knowledge and practice of confidentiality policy.
