JOB PURPOSE

As a Laboratory Officer in Earth Sciences at the Research Institute of Sciences and Engineering (RISE), you are expected to support and develop advanced research infrastructure in line with RISE's mission. You will be actively engaged in research in one or more areas of geosciences, such as geophysics, geochemistry, hydrogeology, petroleum geology, or other relevant specializations. Expertise in the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning techniques to Earth Science research is essential.

MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES & EXPECTATIONS

Assist in various research tasks across Earth Science disciplines, including geophysics, geochemistry, structural geology, hydrology, hydrogeology and petroleum geosciences. Conduct and supervise research involving GIS, remote sensing, and geospatial data analysis. Employ AI techniques to analyze large geoscientific datasets, with an emphasis on geophysical and geochemical data. Support the development, calibration, and operation of field instrumentation for geophysical surveys or environmental monitoring. Assist in organizing and supervising fieldwork for data collection in various geoscientific studies. Follow up on all matters related to the University of Sharjah Seismic Station (UOSS), ensuring its smooth operation. Collaborate with local, regional, and international research entities in geoscience-related projects. Produce high-quality research reports, publications, and presentations for scientific dissemination.
Stay current with developments in AI applications, remote sensing, GIS, and other technologies within Earth Sciences.

Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams Manage research projects effectively Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken Develop and apply AI/ML models for seismic interpretation, petrophysical analysis, reservoir modeling, and hydrocarbon prospect evaluation Advanced data analysis and modeling (Python, MATLAB, R, etc.) Managing or developing geoscience-related databases

DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS

Educational background in Earth Sciences or a related field.
Proficiency in GIS, remote sensing, and AI techniques Strong research experience across multiple geoscience fields. Experience in supervising field studies, including geophysical, hydrogeological, or geochemical data collection.
Proven record of research publications and experience in scientific communication. Post-doctoral Experience is desirable but not required.
