The fundamental responsibility of this position is to provide technical assistance in related domain and to manage the DERC Mechanical Labs and is required to set up and operate and maintain a variety of machine tools assist to scientific research. May also fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.

Responsibilities
- Responsible for arranging testing activities of the Mechanical Laboratory and deal with emergencies, unplanned problems and repairs.
- Conduct assembly checks to ensure the assembly features are meeting the drawing requirements, if required.
- Proven technical skills required in Mechanical Workshop comfortable using Lathe machine, Drilling, welding, LASER cutters, LASER Scanners used for modeling etc.
- Make regular site visits FAT/SAT, as and when required.
- Maintenance of calibration of equipment.
- Diagnose machine tool malfunctions to determine need for adjustments or repairs.
- Evaluate machining procedures and recommend changes or modifications for improved efficiency or adaptability.
- Operate equipment to verify operational efficiency.
- Control of relevant management system documents and maintain requisite records.
- Safekeeping of testing records.
- Responsible for handling the testing equipment, safely.
- Confer with engineering, supervisory, or manufacturing personnel to exchange technical information.
- Design fixtures, tooling, or experimental parts to meet special engineering needs, if required.
- Dismantle machines or equipment, using hand tools or power tools to examine parts for defects and replace defective parts where needed.
- Establish work procedures for fabricating new structural products, using a variety of metalworking machines.
- Controlling Machines and Processes - Using either control mechanisms or direct physical activity to operate machines or processes
- Inspecting Equipment, Structures, or Material - Inspecting equipment, structures, or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects.
- Monitor Processes, Materials, or Surroundings - Monitoring and reviewing information from materials, events, or the environment, to detect or assess problems.
- Repairing and Maintaining Mechanical Equipment - Servicing, repairing, adjusting, and testing machines, devices, moving parts, and equipment that operate primarily on the basis of mechanical (not electronic) principles.
- Communicating with Supervisors, Peers, or stakeholders - Providing information to supervisors, co-workers/peers, and stakeholders on various related aspects.
- Making Decisions and Solving Problems - Analyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
- Training and Teaching Others - Identifying the educational needs of others, developing formal educational or training programs or classes, and teaching or instructing others together with technical leads, if required.
- Organizing, Planning, and Prioritizing Work - Developing specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish your work.
- Drafting, Laying Out, and Specifying Technical Devices, Parts, and Equipment - Providing documentation, detailed instructions, drawings, or specifications to tell others about how devices, parts, equipment, or structures are to be fabricated, constructed, assembled, modified, maintained, or used.
- Establishing and Maintaining Interpersonal Relationships - Developing constructive and cooperative working relationships with others and maintaining them over time.
- Operating conventional lathe, milling, and drilling machines in the Engineering machine shop;
- Assist in developing technical lab manuals, instruction manuals, reference guides and safety documents.
- Oversees all aspects of laboratory operations. Develops and implements policies, procedures, and standards for lab operations to ensure the efficiency, effectiveness, safety, and quality control of all laboratories and compliance.
- Performing other related duties as assigned by the Supervisor or anyone acting in his or her capacity.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
- Ability to work with other engineering groups to determine best approach to meet testing requirements
- Project Management, Operations and Supply Chain Management experience, will be an added experience.
- Work alongside with the project management teams to successfully monitor progress and implementation of initiatives
- Very strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with researchers.
- 3D Engineering, 3D CAD: Designing, repairing, modifying 3D CAD data Finishing: Assembling, painting, sanding, enhancing a 3D model, if required.
- Scheduling: Managing multiple materials, shipments, machines, orders, etc.
- Maintenance: Calibrating, repairing, and testing 3D printers
- Other duties related to the position
Requirements
- Knowledge in 3D printer operations and CNC machine technology.
- Ability to work independently given general instruction.
- Ability to work as a team member to accomplish research goals.
- Competency in CAD software (especially SolidWorks and AutoCAD) Python, LabView, MatLab, or other software environments.
- Strong technical and mechanical aptitude.
- Familiarity with laboratory quality and controls processes is an added advantage
- Analytical and strong organizational skills, with excellent verbal and written ability
- Knowledge of current technological developments/trends in area of expertise.
- Knowledge of chemical, hazardous waste, industrial hygiene, and/or environmental health standards.
- Ability to utilize, calibrate, configure and/or troubleshoot laboratory testing systems and instruments.
- Knowledge of budget preparation and fiscal management.
- Technical leadership skills within area of expertise.
- Ability to deliver effective presentations to large and small audiences.
- Ability to design, build, test, operate, and maintain complex laboratory equipment.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with a strong attention to detail.
- Very strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with key stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science with a major in mechanical engineering or related field.
- Familiarity with lab equipment and procedures.
- 5 + years related job experience.
- Experience working together with teams from several departments to facilitate the orderly execution of a proposed project plan
- Professional experience and a high-level understanding of working with various operating systems and basic trouble shooting
