Job Description
Job Summary: The Kitchen Hood System Technician specializes in the installation, inspection, cleaning, and maintenance of commercial kitchen exhaust systems, including hoods, ductwork, fans, and fire suppression systems. This role ensures compliance with fire safety codes and prevents grease buildup that could lead to fire hazards. Key Responsibilities: * Installation & Maintenance:
- Install, repair, and maintain commercial kitchen hoods, exhaust fans, ductwork, and grease filters.
- Service and test fire suppression systems (e.g., Ansul, Pyro-Chem) connected to kitchen hoods.
- Replace damaged or worn-out components to ensure optimal performance.
- Cleaning & Degreasing:
- Perform thorough cleaning of hood systems, ducts, and vents to remove grease buildup.
- Use pressure washing, scraping, and chemical cleaning methods as required.
- Ensure compliance with NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) and local fire safety regulations.
- Inspection & Testing:
- Conduct routine inspections of kitchen exhaust systems for fire hazards.
- Test fire suppression systems, alarms, and automatic shut-off mechanisms.
- Document inspection results and maintenance activities.
- Troubleshooting & Repairs:
- Diagnose and fix issues with exhaust fans, motors, and ventilation controls.
- Repair or replace faulty electrical wiring, sensors, or mechanical parts.
- Respond to emergency service calls for malfunctioning hood systems.
- Compliance & Safety:
- Ensure all work meets OSHA, NFPA 96 (Standard for Ventilation Control and Fire Protection of Commercial Cooking Operations), and local fire codes.
- Advise restaurant owners/managers on fire safety best practices.
- Customer Service & Reporting:
- Provide clear explanations of work performed and recommendations for improvements.
- Maintain service records, inspection reports, and compliance documentation.
