Job Description

Job Summary:
The Junior Sous Chef assists the Sous Chef and Executive Chef in overseeing kitchen operations, ensuring high-quality food preparation, maintaining kitchen standards, and leading the culinary team in a fast-paced environment. This role involves supervising staff, managing food production, and upholding health and safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities: * Food Preparation & Cooking:

  • Assist in preparing and cooking dishes according to established recipes and standards.
  • Ensure consistency in taste, presentation, and portion sizes.
  • Help develop new menu items and specials in collaboration with the culinary team.
  • Kitchen Operations:
  • Supervise and coordinate daily kitchen activities in the absence of the Sous Chef.
  • Assist in inventory management, ordering supplies, and minimizing food waste.
  • Ensure all kitchen equipment is properly used and maintained.
  • Team Leadership & Training:
  • Guide and mentor junior kitchen staff (line cooks, prep cooks, commis chefs).
  • Assist in training new hires on kitchen procedures, safety, and cooking techniques.
  • Maintain a positive and professional work environment.
  • Quality & Safety Compliance:
  • Enforce strict hygiene and sanitation standards (HACCP, food safety regulations).
  • Monitor food storage, handling, and temperature control.
  • Conduct regular kitchen inspections to ensure compliance with health codes.
  • Service Coordination:
  • Work closely with front-of-house staff to ensure smooth service.
  • Address and resolve any kitchen-related customer complaints professionally.
Qualifications & Skills:
  • Education: Culinary degree/diploma or equivalent experience.
  • Experience: 2-3 years in a professional kitchen, with some supervisory exposure.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in various cooking techniques, knife skills, and kitchen equipment.
  • Leadership: Ability to motivate and manage a team.
  • Organization: Strong time management and multitasking skills.
  • Adaptability: Works well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Certifications: Food Handler's Certificate (required); additional safety training is a plus.
