Joinery Planner
Job Title: Joinery Planner / Workshop Planner
Department: Manufacturing, Workshop, or Production Planning
Reports To: Production Manager, Head of Joinery, or Project Manager
Job Purpose:
The Joinery Planner is the critical link between design, sales, and workshop production. Responsible for translating architectural drawings, client specifications, and design intent into comprehensive, accurate, and efficient manufacturing packages. This role ensures all workshop activities are meticulously planned, scheduled, and resourced to deliver high-quality joinery products on time and within budget.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Technical Analysis & Documentation:
  • Analyze architectural drawings, 3D models, and specifications to fully understand project requirements.
  • Create detailed cutting lists, bill of materials (BOM), and hardware schedules.
  • Produce comprehensive workshop drawings, sub-assembly diagrams, and installation sequences.
  • Specify materials, grades, veneers, finishes, and tolerances in accordance with design and quality standards.
  • Process Planning & Optimization:
  • Determine the most efficient and cost-effective manufacturing methods for each component.
  • Plan the workflow sequence through machines and workstations (CNC, edgebanding, assembly, finishing).
  • Generate machine-ready programs for CNC routers and saws, optimizing nesting to minimize material waste.
  • Design and specify required jigs, fixtures, and templates for complex components.
  • Scheduling & Resource Management:
  • Develop and maintain detailed production schedules for the workshop.
  • Allocate manpower, machinery, and materials to meet project deadlines.
  • Coordinate with the procurement team to ensure timely availability of materials, sheet goods, and components.
  • Monitor workshop progress and adjust schedules in response to changes or delays.
  • Collaboration & Communication:
  • Liaise closely with designers, project managers, and site managers to clarify details and resolve queries.
  • Conduct pre-production meetings with workshop supervisors and team leaders.
  • Serve as the primary technical point of contact for the workshop floor, providing clear instructions and clarifications.
Skills & Qualifications:
  • Essential: Proven experience in a joinery planning, workshop detailing, or cabinet-making role.
  • Essential: Exceptional ability to read and interpret architectural and workshop drawings.
  • Essential: High proficiency in industry-standard software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, SketchUp, Cabinet Vision, Microvellum, or similar).
  • Essential: In-depth knowledge of woodworking materials, joinery techniques, finishes, and hardware.
  • Desirable: Experience with CNC programming and nesting software.
  • Strong numeracy, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management abilities.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
