JOB TITLE: International Tax Manager

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Proactively partner with business teams to deliver commercial, practical, and forward-looking tax advice for international projects throughout their life cycle. This covers all taxes including direct, indirect and employment taxes for new bids, new country entries, strategic initiatives, ongoing contracts, corporate structuring and other ad-hoc tax advice.
  • Review, assess, and challenge all material transactions from a tax perspective and ensure that tax risks and mitigations are effectively communicated to management and the relevant risk committee(s).
  • Review contractual documentation from a tax perspective and provide recommendations to stakeholders in order to mitigate risks.
  • Actively support the group\xe2\x80\x99s UAE corporate tax implementation project, and the development and implementation of the group\xe2\x80\x99s TP policies, supporting the tax strategy across the group. Ensure that TP policies are understood and are properly implemented by the business units.
  • Assess, update, and develop the group\xe2\x80\x99s TP Master File and other TP master documentation, ensuring it effectively supports the group\xe2\x80\x99s tax strategy. Support the business units with their preparation of local TP documentation, reports, and disclosures, ensuring consistency with the group\xe2\x80\x99s TP master documentation. Support the business units in engaging and working with external TP advisers.
  • Support tax planning activities e.g., recharging central costs, APA applications, new country entries, new bids, tax management of ongoing projects, etc. Proactively assess tax and TP risks and opportunities for the group and ensure these are effectively communicated to all stakeholders. Provide support on tax and TP audit and controversy matters.
  • Manage the tax position of Petrofac\xe2\x80\x99s global employment company, including overseeing tax compliance activities and transfer pricing, and assessing and mitigating permanent establishment, withholding tax, and other tax risks.
  • Actively support the development and enhancement of processes, systems, and controls e.g.:
  • Implementation of Petrofac\xe2\x80\x99s Tax Governance Standard.
  • Implementation of Petrofac TP policies.
  • Generally, identify and implement tax process improvements including automation.
  • Keep stakeholders appraised of tax developments and changes which may affect the business.
  • Work with the Group Tax team to deliver global goals and objectives, coordinate tax advice across business units, and support ad-hoc tax projects. Develop effective working relationships with other group functions e.g., commercial, proposals, legal, treasury, finance, internal audit, etc.
  • Promote a continuous improvement agenda by seeking out and implementing opportunities to make tax processes more effective and efficient.
  • Support the delivery of the Group Tax budget, manage the use of advisers so that their fees come in on or under plan.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
  • International tax professional with good working knowledge of all taxes \xe2\x80\x93 direct, indirect and employment - and transfer pricing.
  • Degree level education, professional qualification to UK Chartered Institute of Taxation ATII, UK Chartered Accountant, or equivalent.
  • 3-5 years relevant experience in industry or in practice (Big 4 preferred).
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to develop effective working relationships with the relevant stakeholder teams.
  • Critical thinker who can analyse and interpret technical tax legislation and papers, and present findings in an understandable format to non-tax colleagues.
  • Resilient and motivated self-starter who can independently initiate and drive projects to completion, working with other team members to deliver results.
  • Intellectual curiosity, \xe2\x80\x9chands-on\xe2\x80\x9d problem solver with the capacity to develop and learn in the role, willingness to challenge the status quo.
  • Able to self-manage and meet deadlines through planning, organization, and persistence.
  • Tax planning \xe2\x80\x93 judgment is required to design and recommend optimised structures which will stand up to scrutiny from tax authorities and other regulators.
  • Risk management - assessing complex tax risks in transactions and projects and making recommendations as to how they are best dealt with.
