The Team
The Infrastructure, Projects and Energy (IPE) team advises funds, financial institutions, energy and utility companies, developers and public institutions on innovative, complex projects, which are frequently in the headlines. The key thread of what we do is that most of our work is bespoke, non-commodity, with plenty of opportunities to grow and develop professionally.
The Dubai team currently works on large-scale energy and infrastructure projects across Africa and the Middle East. Main clients are governments and developers and the team focuses on project structuring, development and financing and acts as transaction advisor for governments in their project procurement.
The team work closely with other external advisors (financial and technical) and often with wider AG colleagues in both Construction and Finance (also based in Dubai) to better support projects through the entire life cycle of development, financing and project implementation.
The Role
Given the teams' plans for growth, we are looking for a mid-level to senior associate to join us and help service our growing roster of major energy, utilities and natural resources clients
To succeed in this role, you will have excellent technical legal skills, gained within complex multi-jurisdictional environments. The ideal candidate will have experience managing or supporting multifaceted projects that often have a transformative effect on both countries and people (i.e. renewable energy, water, and other infrastructure).
The team provides opportunities to engage with both trade and industry associations such as; Dii, MENA Hydrogen Association, IPFA etc. and are looking for an experienced lawyer who is keen to develop their international skill set as part of a growing team.
Knowledge, Skills And Experience Required
The successful candidate will have:
  • 5+ years PQE obtained in a comparable environment
  • a professional proficiency in either French or Arabic (written, spoken and reading), would be highly advantageous but not essential for the role
  • the ability to take a lead role supporting complex transactions, liaising and coordinating with fee earners from other relevant disciplines as needed
  • the ability to contribute to the general upkeep of the group (whether that be to training, precedents, or know-how generally)
  • strong commercial awareness – but most importantly a willingness to learn and a genuine interest in infrastructure, energy and transport
  • high standard of client care for existing clients at the highest level
  • the enthusiasm to market to clients
  • knowledge of key areas of the law by providing clear, precise, practical advice
  • excellent academic achievement with a minimum 2:1 degree or equivalent
  • a clear understanding of the operation and structure of a top law firm
