: HSE Trainer Job Summary: A HSE Trainer monitors workplace activity to ensure that workers comply with company policies and government safety regulations, also train & improve the existing safety programs. The duties of this job vary by employer, but safety Trainers typically have responsibilities pertaining to policy development, safety inspections, safety training and compliance with the Government Occupational Safety & Health Administration, some safety officers, such as those in the construction industry, must have several years of field experience to qualify for this type of job. Duties & Responsibilities: Provide advice, information and instruction on local OHS issues Assist in the application of OHS procedures Help manage risks and hazards in their area Report and investigate incidents, injuries and hazards and implement agreed control measures Liaise with the head of the unit or controlled entity, OHS Unit and other safety personnel Review and analyses injury and incident reports and data Develop injury and incident prevention strategies for their area Monitor local area compliance with OHS policy and procedures Audit local area OHS compliance with regard to risk, emergency and hazardous waste management Help promote awareness Developing and implementing safety policies helps employers reduce accident-related costs and prevent losses due to a decline in productivity. The safety officer determines what policies are needed and solicits input from managers and workers. Alerts workers about the change and monitors compliance. He may also ask each employee to sign a statement acknowledging receipt of the information. Inspect interior and exterior work areas to determine if there are any safety hazards. Looks for broken equipment and damaged equipment, slip-and-fall hazards and other potential hazards. Observes workers to ensure that they are wearing required personal protective equipment and following company safety policies. In the construction industry, safety officers check the stability of scaffolding, ensure that workers use hard hats and protective footwear, and check to make sure employees operate construction equipment in a safe manner. When a workplace accident occurs, a safety officer conducts an investigation to determine why the accident happened. The officer may question witnesses, inspect the accident scene and take pictures of any property damage. Once the officer determines the cause of the accident, he writes a report detailing the cause and provides recommendations that can help prevent future accidents. Identify training needs, develop and deliver training to employees. Improve and adapt new HSE training programs. Enhancing the HSE performance by conducting scheduled training, Evaluate the HSE performance. Assist in HSE campaigns. Relationship: Report to Safety Manager & Working Department Manager Education & Experience: Diploma in health and safety or risk management are often required by employers for entry into the profession. Alternatively, diploma in engineering, construction, business and management, or law may be beneficial, although this should be followed by a qualification in occupational health and safety, such as NEBOSH IGC Level 3 national diploma. Relevant scientific or technical work experience (either paid or voluntary) can be beneficial. Sufficient to allow progression to the full working level within a two-year period, determined by the employing authority. Skills & Knowledge: Able to work independently or as part of a team Good communication & training skills Good interpersonal skills Discretion and respect for confidentiality and privacy Integrity and honesty. Good oral and written communication skills. Good organizational skills. Ability to maintain effective work relationships. Some knowledge of workplace safety and health issues. Working Conditions: HSE Trainer typically work in offices, Train at training halls and rooms However, they also must spend time at worksites, when necessary, which sometimes requires travel.
