About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and compassionate HR Manager with in-depth knowledge of UK employment law to lead and strengthen our HR function within the healthcare sector.
You will ensure full legal compliance, drive a positive and supportive workplace culture, and deliver HR solutions that uphold both regulatory standards and our organisation's care values.
This is a pivotal role for a confident professional who can combine strong employment law expertise with an understanding of the unique HR challenges in healthcare -- including safe staffing, compliance with CQC and NHS frameworks, and employee wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities
1. Legal Compliance & Employee Relations
Ensure all HR policies, procedures, and employment contracts comply with UK employment legislation and healthcare-specific regulations (CQC, NHS guidelines, and safeguarding standards).
Provide expert advice on employee relations, grievances, disciplinaries, and capability issues, ensuring fair and lawful outcomes.
Manage redundancy, TUPE transfers, and restructures in line with statutory requirements.
Maintain accurate HR records compliant with GDPR and healthcare confidentiality standards.
2. Policy Development & HR Governance
Draft, review, and implement HR policies tailored to healthcare operations, including whistleblowing, safeguarding, and equality & diversity.
Monitor legislative and regulatory changes, advising leadership on their impact.
Support audit readiness and compliance inspections (e.g., CQC, ISO, or internal HR audits).
3. Workforce Management & Engagement
Support workforce planning to ensure safe staffing levels, appropriate skill mix, and staff retention.
Promote employee wellbeing initiatives aligned with healthcare workforce challenges.
Champion diversity, inclusion, and fairness across all HR practices.
4. Recruitment, Onboarding & Development
Oversee fair, compliant recruitment processes in line with "Safer Recruitment" principles.
Lead onboarding and induction for clinical and non-clinical staff.
Identify training needs and coordinate development programmes to support regulatory compliance and professional growth.
5. Strategic HR Leadership
Partner with senior management to align HR strategy with organisational goals.
Provide HR metrics and insights to inform decisions on turnover, absence, and workforce trends.
Support a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and compassionate leadership.
Qualifications & Experience
CIPD Level 5 or above (Level 7 or Chartered Member status preferred).
Minimum 5+ years' HR management experience within the UK healthcare sector (private or NHS).
Strong working knowledge of UK employment law, CQC compliance, and Safer Recruitment standards.
Proven experience managing complex ER cases and advising senior leaders.
Excellent communication, negotiation, and coaching skills.
Desirable Attributes
Experience with TUPE transfers and multi-site healthcare environments.
Understanding of workforce challenges in care delivery (rota management, clinical supervision, etc.).
Empathetic and professional approach to sensitive and confidential HR matters.
