Job Description

Job Purpose:

To ensure a safe, healthy, and compliant environment for children, staff, and visitors by implementing and monitoring all health and safety protocols in accordance with local regulations and nursery policies.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Health & Safety Compliance

Ensure full compliance with UAE health and safety regulations, childcare standards, and local authority requirements. Conduct regular risk assessments and hazard checks across all nursery areas, including classrooms, play areas, kitchen, and bathrooms. Maintain up-to-date records of safety inspections and risk assessments.

2. Daily Monitoring & Safety Checks

Oversee daily health and hygiene checks in classrooms and shared spaces. Ensure cleanliness standards are upheld and that sanitation products are used correctly and safely. Monitor and review accident and incident reports; implement preventative measures accordingly.

3. Emergency Preparedness

Create, update, and practice emergency evacuation plans (fire drills, lockdown procedures, etc.). Ensure all staff are aware of emergency procedures and know their roles in case of an emergency. Keep first aid kits well-stocked and ensure they are accessible.

4. Staff Training & Awareness

Deliver or coordinate regular training for staff on health, safety, and first aid practices. Provide induction training to all new staff regarding safety procedures and policies. Promote a culture of safety awareness and accountability.

5. Child Health Monitoring

Support staff in recognising signs of illness or injury in children. Oversee hygiene procedures during meals, nappy changes, toileting, and nap times. Ensure medical records and allergy information are clearly displayed and easily accessible to relevant staff.

6. Reporting & Documentation

Maintain accurate and confidential records of incidents, inspections, and training. Liaise with local authorities or inspectors when required. Prepare monthly health and safety reports for management.

Requirements:

Minimum 2 years' experience in a health and safety role, preferably within a childcare or educational setting. Certification in Health & Safety or Occupational Safety (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH) preferred. First Aid certification (Paediatric First Aid highly desirable). Strong understanding of child safeguarding and early years regulations in the UAE. Excellent attention to detail, communication, and record-keeping skills. Ability to train and motivate a diverse team of educators and support staff.
