Head Waiter
Reports To: Restaurant Manager, Junior Supervisor
Supervises: Waiters/Waitresses, Food Runners
Job Overview:
The Head Waiter is the senior server on the floor, responsible for coordinating the service team, ensuring smooth service flow, and acting as a liaison between the wait staff, kitchen, and management. They often manage a specific section or oversee the entire dining room.
Key Responsibilities:
- Service Coordination:
- Assign sections and tables to wait staff.
- Coordinate with the kitchen to manage timing and communicate special orders or delays.
- Ensure all tables receive timely and professional service.
- Team Guidance:
- Mentor and assist junior wait staff with complex orders or situations.
- Lead pre-shift briefings on menu specials and service notes.
- VIP & Large Party Service:
- Often personally handles VIP guests or large reservations.
- Manages the timing and service for large groups to ensure a cohesive experience.
- Quality Control:
- Check tables for presentation and accuracy before food is served.
- Verify that side work is completed to standard.
- Extensive experience as a Waiter/Waitress in a full-service restaurant.
- In-depth knowledge of food, wine, and fine dining etiquette.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to remain calm and directive during high-pressure service.
