Overall role Objectives and KPI’s:
1. Improving academic standards The HoTL will work collaboratively with the Heads of School and Principal to improve the overall quality of teaching & learning (T&L) across the Doha Academy group in line with national and international benchmarks and group expectations. The HoTL will be data-driven in approach, collating and analyzing both qualitative and quantitative data to inform intervention and improvement planning.
KPI’s: 1.1 – Positive and effective collaboration with key co-workers. 1.2 – Verifiable improvement to teaching quality and learning outcomes.
2. Stakeholder engagement and development The HoTL is responsible for advising the Heads of School / Principal on developments in teaching & learning, curriculum, and assessment in support of the school’s Vision & Mission. The HoTL will keep abreast of academic research in order to advise upon and deliver CPD to all academic staff. With the wider SLT, the HoTL will ensure that the schools’ academic calendar and programs take into consideration the views of all stakeholders and are contextually appropriate, relevant and impactful.
KPI’s: 2.1 – Provision of contextually relevant research / audit-based academic advice and CPD. 2.2 – Stakeholder engagement in academic scheduling, programs and initiatives.
3. Quality Assurance Working collaboratively and under the direction of the Heads of School, the HoTL will quality assure academic provision on an ongoing basis to ensure it is accessible, inclusive and in line with agreed school objectives, standards, and values. In consultation with the Heads of School the HoTL will periodically schedule and undertake teaching & learning evaluations of all teachers; thereafter collating, analyzing and presenting data to the wider SLT to help inform and evaluate development, and contributing to the teacher appraisal process.
KPI’s: 3.1 – Documented evaluative reviews of all academic provision to inform improvement priorities. 3.2 – Verifiable contribution to staff development and retention.
4. Improvement planning In collaboration with the Heads of School, the HoTL will help complete school self-evaluation on all academic provision, and directly feed into the school’s strategic and development planning, ensuring progress towards and attainment of the academic KPI’s outlined therein.
KPI’s: 4.1 – Clearly identified and articulated development priorities. 4.2 – Evidence of progress towards and attainment of development priorities.
5. Academic Policy Development In collaboration with the Heads of School, the HoTL will review and update all academic policies (including T&L, curriculum, assessment, and language) and introducing new policies where appropriate. As part of the quality assurance process, the HoTL will help monitor the implementation of all agreed academic policies to ensure consistency of approach.
KPI’s: 5. 1 – Academic policies are up-to-date and understood by all stakeholders. 5.2 – Evidence of the effective implementation and impact of academic policies.
6. Relationships and modelling: The HoTL will be a positive force for change, developing productive working relationships with all academic staff to facilitate overall school improvement. The majority of the HoTL’s schedule will be spent coaching and mentoring teachers, and team / demo teaching with the aim of improving learning outcomes across the schools. The HoTL is responsible for ensuring an ongoing conversation about effective teaching & learning at Doha Academy, and for promoting links with external organisations with commensurate aims.
KPI’s: 6.1 - Successful appraisal against the role descriptor’s KPI’s. 6.1 – Facilitation of a learning community that draws upon the expertise of external partners.
7. Resource development: With the aim of enhancing academic provision, the HoTL will locate and rationalize the need for additional resourcing (digital, human, and material). Evidence collated and analysed by the HoTL will inform decisions about resource retention. In collaboration with the Heads of School or other designated staff members, the HoTL will participate in the selection of new academic staff.
KPI’s: 7.1 – Additional resourcing is promoted and secured where possible to further improve provision. 7.2 – Evidence of quality staff recruitment.
8. Innovation and self-development: In addition to promoting external research-based development, the HoTL will be innovative in approach, providing creative solutions to identified academic challenges/ barriers to learning. The HoTL will be committed to their own self-development including through agreed action research within the schools.
KPI’s: 8.1 – Evidence of new initiatives and creative solutions to enhance learning outcomes. 8.2 – Ongoing self-development in relation to all relevant academic fields.
This is a full-time vacancy with a start date in August 2022. Salary and benefits will be competitive
