The role of the Director of tax is to direct and oversee MAF Entertainment tax policies and objectives in the MENA Region (currently 8 countries). He/She will be responsible for the overall tax function of the organization (local, regional) and will ensure compliance with applicable tax statutes, accuracy of the tax returns and manage tax inspections.

Role Details \xe2\x80\x93 Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Lead the tax function across MAF Entertainment
  • Ensure full compliance with tax laws and regulations and the timely filing of all taxes (Corporate Income Tax, withholding tax, VAT, Social Security, Salary tax, Stamp duty, entertainment tax and any other taxes)
  • Lead the implementation of corporate income tax law in UAE
  • Ensure full reconciliation between filed tax returns and accounting records. This includes a monthly review of tax balance sheet accounts and clean up
  • Ensure the best use of double tax treaties to reduce tax obligations
  • Lead and drive all types of tax audits towards successful completion
  • Manage the relationship with tax advisors in all countries
  • Ensure the business is always tax audit ready by maintaining organized physical documents such as vouchers, invoices, tax receipts, tax reconciliations and other tax audit as per the statutory period requirements
  • Hold discussions with regulators to negotiate disputes/ rulings and interpretation of tax provisions requirements.
  • Lead and drive the implementation of E-invoicing in KSA, Egypt
  • Own the transfer pricing filing and notification (BEPS) including local file, master file, economic substance, CBC reporting/notification
  • Ensure transfer pricing documentation (intercompany agreements, loan agreements mark-ups on services) are available and in line with local countries laws
  • Partner with IT to resolve all IT issues impacting the accuracy of systems reporting, invoices templates requirements, data integration\xe2\x80\xa6.
  • Identify processes deficiencies leading to tax leakage and propose solutions.
  • Partner with the finance shared service (GS) and train the relevant teams on best practices with relevance to Withholding taxes, double tax treaties, correct tax documents formats and other taxes .
  • Ensure the master data (clients, vendors, items) is reviewed regularly for any tax code irregularities and liaise with IT for corrective action.
  • Ensure an issues-log file is maintained to track all current and prior resolved issues which will serve as a checklist and reference for compliance.
  • Keep all relevant parties updated with new tax laws and developments
  • Advise business partners on tax queries and on optimal tax structures including tax clauses in legal agreements,

  • Performs any additional adhoc duties as and when requested by the Line Manager and/or Head of Department.
  • Adheres to MAF Entertainment policies and procedures with regards to HSE, grooming, code of conduct, work ethics, working hours and attendance.


Functional Competencies

  • Solid understanding of local tax laws within the middle east countries.
  • Strong experience in double tax treaties laws and application
  • Strong analytical skills required to diagnose root causes impacting data integrity
  • Deep understanding of accounting principles as well as a solid understanding of financial controls and procedures that are necessary for successful prevention, detection, and resolution of errors in the business\xe2\x80\x99s accounting records.
  • Technologically adept and possess exceptionally good computer skills, being highly proficient in MS Excel, MS Office, MS Outlook, and PowerPoint, which will all be necessary for the creation of financial reports, proposals, and recommendations.

Minimum Experience
Minimum of 12+ years of working experience in a corporate tax position within a fast-moving and dynamic business environment,
Minimum Qualifications/education
  • Educated to professional level preferably MBA - Finance.
