Job Title:
Head of Procurement - Chemical Trading
Position Overview:
The Head of Procurement for the Chemical Trading division is responsible for leading the end-to-end procurement process of raw chemicals, intermediates, and specialty products across domestic and international markets. This role demands deep market knowledge, strong vendor networks, regulatory compliance awareness (e.g., REACH, OSHA, DG handling), and commercial acumen to ensure efficient, safe, and profitable sourcing and supply of chemical products.
Develop and execute sourcing strategies aligned with the company's growth and margin targets.
Monitor global chemical markets to identify supply risks, price trends, and emerging suppliers.
2. Supplier Relationship Management
Identify, evaluate, and onboard reliable chemical suppliers globally
Negotiate optimal terms, credit lines, and delivery schedules.
Build long-term partnerships with strategic vendors.
3. Regulatory & Quality Compliance
Ensure all procured chemicals meet national and international regulatory standards
Coordinate with QA/QC and logistics teams for product testing, documentation, and safe handling.
Oversee the maintenance of import/export documentation, licenses, and safety data.
4. Contracting & Risk Management
Draft and manage contracts for bulk and specialty chemical procurement.
Mitigate risks related to pricing volatility, geopolitical issues, and supplier reliability.
Ensure adherence to Incoterms, customs regulations, and insurance policies.
5. Cost & Inventory Optimization
Collaborate with Sales, Finance, and Logistics to manage landed cost and working capital.
Optimize inventory levels while ensuring timely availability to meet customer demands.
Track cost-saving initiatives and procurement KPIs.
6. Team Leadership & Systems Implementation
Lead and develop a high-performing procurement team with category-specific expertise.
Implement digital tools and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Tally Prime, or custom chemical trading software) to automate procurement workflows.
Qualifications & Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Supply Chain, or related field (Master's or MBA preferred).
Minimum
10 years of procurement experience
, with at least
5 years in chemical trading
.
Strong knowledge of international chemical markets, suppliers, and trade regulations.
Experience handling hazardous and specialty chemicals with appropriate logistics and compliance awareness.
Key Skills:
Deep knowledge of chemical product categories and pricing mechanisms
Strong negotiation and analytical skills
Vendor and contract management
Familiarity with HAZMAT transportation, warehousing, and documentation
