Job Purpose: The job holder is responsible for spearheading innovation in healthcare by driving human-centered design and technology development to address unmet clinical and patient needs. Strategic Responsibilities: Develop and execute the vision, strategy, and long-term goals of the healthcare design lab, ensuring alignment with the overarching mission of the innovation center. Identify key focus areas in healthcare innovation, such as medical devices, digital health tools, patient- centric solutions, and operational workflow enhancements. Core Responsibilities: Oversee the design and development of innovative healthcare solutions, ensuring projects are grounded in real-world clinical and patient needs. Guide interdisciplinary teams of engineers, designers, clinicians, and researchers to generate, prototype, and test new medical devices, digital tools, and systems. Lead the development of frameworks and processes for design-thinking, leand and agile workshops, ideation sessions, and innovation sprints. Build and manage a team of designers, biomedical engineers, product managers, and technologists to achieve impactful outcomes. Collaborate with regulatory experts and clinical stakeholders to ensure solutions meet compliance and usability standards (e.g., FDA, CE, HIPAA). Oversee the creation of prototypes, MVPs (minimum viable products), and iterative testing to accelerate time-to-market for innovations. Foster a culture of experimentation and cross-disciplinary collaboration within the lab to push boundaries while adhering to ethical healthcare design principles. Publish case studies, whitepapers, and research findings to share best practices and successes from the lab's projects. Develop and maintain a comprehensive IP (intellectual property) strategy to protect the lab's innovations. Build a global reputation for the lab by fostering a culture of design-driven healthcare innovation, emphasizing human-centered design principles. Establish strong relationships with leading hospitals, academic institutions, healthcare providers, and technology partners to create impactful collaborations. Actively identify unmet clinical needs through partnerships with clinicians, researchers, and patients, driving the lab's design challenges and projects. Secure funding and sponsorship from public and private sectors, ensuring sustainable growth of the lab's initiatives and projects. Represent the design lab at global conferences, workshops, and industry forums to establish thought leadership in healthcare design. Drive the learning pilar of the Innovation Center. Developmental Responsibilities: Define annual performance goals in consultation with the reporting manager and monitor progress throughout the year to ensure achievement. Take ownership of personal development by identifying areas for growth, attending training sessions, and pursuing certifications relevant to healthcare design and innovation. Regularly self-assess and enhance competencies such as strategic thinking, design leadership, and healthcare system knowledge. Stay informed about global trends and emerging technologies in healthcare design and innovation through conferences, publications, and professional networks. Actively contribute to a positive and inclusive work environment, fostering collaboration, diversity, and mutual respect among team members. Educational Requirements: Minimum of a Master's degree, preferably a Ph.D., in Product Design, Industrial Design, Human-Centered Design, or related fields. Overall Experience: A minimum of 10-year experience: mix of professional and academic. At least 10 years of combined professional and academic experience, with a demonstrated track record of healthcare innovation, medical device design, or digital health projects. Portfolio: Strong portfolio of successful design-led healthcare solutions, including medical devices, digital health products, or patient care systems. Funding Expertise: Proven success in securing grants, venture capital, or public funding for healthcare innovation projects. Communication Skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities to engage and inspire diverse audiences, including clinicians, engineers, and policymakers.
