JOB PURPOSE: The purpose of this role is to lead a team of credit analysts in the Consumer Banking credit underwriting function [Consumer Loans and Cards] with the objective of taking credit ownership from underwriting to obtaining/p JOB PURPOSE: The purpose of this role is to lead a team of credit analysts in the Consumer Banking credit underwriting function [Consumer Loans and Cards] with the objective of taking credit ownership from underwriting to obtaining/providing necessary approvals for the clients. The role will also ensure all propositions are in compliance with Group Credit Policy, frameworks and guidelines. The role will also be expected to provide guidance and expertise across full spectrum of product offering(s) working with the Coverage & Product teams and also if required engage with the clients in structuring and propositioning so that client needs, and Bank requirements are met in a swift and expeditious manner. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES: Generic Accountability Ensure that appropriate Target Market Risk Acceptance Criteria, Product program parameters andGroup Credit Policy guidelines are followed as part of credit approval process. Participate and represent credit in the due diligence process for prospective credit deals in collaboration with Coverage/ Product teams and ensure that emerging risk factors are identified and are suitably addressed with appropriate mitigants. Conduct and guide a team of analyst(s), to conduct robust credit analysis and obtain/provide appropriate approvals. Where needed and appropriate, actively engage with coverage team through client visits / conference calls as part of the transaction origination/structuring. Provide ongoing feedback and expert inputs into the deal structure intermittently and as required based on Bank Risk Appetite for products/ industry / sector / geography / counterparty. Advise Relationship Managers/Sales Teams/Branches on the risk factors associated with complex transactions, and the clauses imperative in mitigating these. Ensure timely availability of required information to senior management for credit and strategic decision making. Guide Coverage/sales/branch/distribution / Product teams on credit appetite and ways and means to optimize the same to achieve optimal risk-reward balance as per established guidelines. Coordinate with internal counterparties (CAD, Legal etc.) to provide guidance on risk assessment, credit risk rating, and documentation. Ensure accuracy of data being presented to various stakeholders including senior management Ensure sufficiently robust models & systems exist to capture the critical credit related information (Risk rating models, collateral management system etc) that allow for accurate identification of risk profiles/ratings in all asset categories. Recommend amendments to the Bank's credit policy, procedures, Risk Rating models, credit memorandums, risk criteria etc based on lending experience and market expediencies ensuring it is aligned with overall Bank's risk strategy & policy. Ensure satisfactory rating in audits through proactive actions and ensure all recommendations are implemented. Job Specific Accountabilities Oversee generation of comprehensive credit papers clearly outlining key risks, mitigations and recommendation for presentation to the Approving Authority for prospective and existing clients under assigned portfolio. Engage with the stakeholders from coverage/sales/distribution/branch & products units to steer the credit portfolio of the business segment in line with the Bank's strategic and risk guidelines. Ensure credit processing & approval turnaround times as per agreed SLAs with EPB. Periodic meetings / conference calls with the clients to be undertaken along with RMs for prospective and existing clients Monitor the credit quality of the portfolio regularly and engage the senior management of business units regularly to ensure compliance with the approved framework. Ensure all excesses, exceptions, overdue annual reviews, covenant deficiencies, ensuring current collateral valuations and deficiencies in terms and conditions vis--vis lending portfolio are monitored, controlled and addressed. Review exception and portfolio reports as applicable and keep abreast of the clients account conduct, financial standing and latest developments occurring in their respective segment/market so as to provide appropriate recommendations with regards to change in risk appetite / ratings /classification. Monitor early warning indicators in order to identify potential problem accounts and liaise with Business Units for ensuring suitable action plans are in place to rectify the situation at an early stage. Manage problem credits closely, and recommending appropriate strategies and remedial action plans. Identify defaulters and recommend immediate remedial arrangements for maintaining a quality credit portfolio. Ensure asset classification and provisioning is in line with statutory and policy guidelines including any risk downgrades. Providing senior level advisory support on credit policies, lending structures, documentations and guidance to business heads/units in managing complex credit risks, providing practical solutions. Contribute to enhancement of knowledge and expertise of other team members by participating in training and development initiatives. Mentoring the credit team members with the view to develop them for their career progression. Job Context Specific Accountability The stated objective of the Bank in respect of Consumer Banking segments is to become the market leader in UAE and the region Clients, in this segment range from low income to High & Ultra High Net Worth Individuals. Various Loan facilities are offered to diverse client groups in Consumer Banking.Accordingly the job holder is expected to demonstrate deep knowledge of products, industry, markets, financial statements so that he/she can work across all product groups and respond in a timely manner. Hence it is critical that the job holder, among other credit skills, is able to demonstrate the following: . A thorough understanding of risks associated with different collateral types, valuation and monitoring processes . Good understanding of documentation/legal requirements for different types of credit facilities . Strong initiative and interactive approach to problem solving while displaying flexibility and independence in a demanding environment. Although a member of the second line of defense, the job holder is expected to play a strong partnership role. He/She is expected to be solution oriented and requires out of the box thinking without seeking to dilute the high standards of credit. Qualifications Minimum Qualification Must have Bachelor's degree. Desirable: - Masters in Business Administration (MBA) or any other relevant finance degree, professional certification Minimum Experience & Skill Set 15-20 years' relevant experience in the banking sector with at least 8-10 years in similar positions of progressively increasing managerial responsibilities in the Credit function. Expert knowledge of various credit products Ability to look into and beyond Personal Net Worth Statements/financials and see business proposition. Strong structuring skills Good understanding of legal and regulatory framework. Ability to work under pressure Demonstrated strong people management skills. Strong communication skills - written and spoken.
