Position Overview
Al-Futtaim Engineering & Technologies is seeking an accomplished Head of Commercial - Projects to lead the commercial and contracts administration function across multiple business units. This strategic leadership role focuses on managing contractual and financial performance, mitigating commercial risks, ensuring adherence to corporate policies, and driving profitability within large-scale construction and MEP operations. Key Responsibilities
Pre-Bid Activities

  • Review tender and contract documents in accordance with the Delegation of Authority (DOA) to identify risks and opportunities.
  • Provide contractual and commercial advice during the bid stage, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Work closely with the estimating team to review project cost sheets and pricing strategies.
  • Support pre-contract negotiations to achieve favorable commercial terms.
Contract and Commercial Documents Review
  • Conduct detailed evaluations of contract terms and submit recommendations to management.
  • Coordinate with the Group Legal department for external contract approvals and risk management.
  • Ensure all projects align with the company's commercial risk management framework.
Project and Contract Performance Management
  • Oversee all aspects of project commercial administration, including cost control, value engineering, and financial reporting.
  • Review and approve cost/value reconciliations, forecasts, and cost-to-complete reports.
  • Manage claims preparation, variations, and extensions of time in accordance with FIDIC principles.
  • Prepare and present monthly and quarterly commercial performance reports to senior leadership.
  • Drive profitability through accurate cost tracking and proactive risk mitigation.
Client Administration
  • Ensure timely submission of contractual notices, payment applications, and claim documents.
  • Negotiate and finalize accounts with clients while securing timely payment certifications.
  • Support the Finance and Treasury teams in collecting receivables and managing bank guarantees.
Leadership and People Development
  • Lead and develop the commercial team through mentoring, coaching, and professional training.
  • Foster a performance-driven culture that emphasizes accountability and operational excellence.
  • Establish and maintain consistent commercial procedures across all project teams.
General and Strategic Responsibilities
  • Provide expert commercial advice to estimating, project, and operations teams.
  • Direct commercial policies and ensure compliance with company and group standards.
  • Contribute to strategic decision-making and business planning to enhance long-term profitability.
Ideal Profile
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or Construction Management; Master's degree preferred.
  • Chartered Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS) is highly desirable.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in the contracting industry with at least 5 years in a senior commercial leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of FIDIC contracts and Middle East construction law.
  • Proven track record in managing large-scale MEP or multi-disciplinary construction projects.
  • Excellent negotiation, analytical, and financial reporting skills.
  • Leadership experience in mentoring commercial teams and managing multi-project portfolios.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications and commercial management tools.
