Head of Arabic & Islamic Studies -Role Profile

Purpose of Role The Head of Arabic & Islamic Studies Studieswill provide academic and administrative leadership for Arabic Language, Islamic Studies, and Qatar History across the school, ensuring the department meets the highest standards of teaching and learning, fully complies with all Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MOEHE) requirements in Qatar, and effectively delivers IGCSE and A-Level programmes. This role requires strong collaboration with MOEHE, a deep understanding of local educational regulations, and the ability to balance curriculum compliance with international academic excellence. Head of Department Key Responsibilities Key Responsibilities: 1. Academic Leadership Design and implement the Arabic, Islamic and Qatar History curriculum aligned with both MOEHE standards and British international examination boards (Edexcel). Ensure MOEHE inspections, licensing, and documentation requirements are fully met and maintained. Oversee and lead the delivery at of all key-stages including IGCSE and A-Level. Maintain updated curriculum documentation, schemes of work, and student data to meet both internal and ministry requirements. Supervise assessment creation, data analysis, and progress tracking. Promote Arabic language and culture across the school community. 2. Ministry Compliance Serve as the main liaison with the Ministry of Education for Arabic, Islamic and Qatar History subject requirements. Prepare and submit necessary documentation, lesson plans, and assessment data as requested by the ministry. Lead the Arabic department through ministry reviews, audits, and curriculum alignment.

3. Teaching and Learning Model exemplary teaching practice across KS3, KS4, and KS5. Provide coaching and training for MOE subject teachers in modern methodologies aligned with both MOEHE and international exam standards. Monitor lesson quality, student engagement, and academic outcomes across the department. Promote inclusive practices that address the needs of students of all levels, including heritage and non-native speakers. 4. Staff Leadership and Development Lead, mentor, and evaluate MOE subject teaching staff. Conduct performance appraisals and learning walks. Support CPD aligned with curriculum changes, language teaching pedagogy, and ministry regulations. Foster a culture of excellence, collaboration, and professional growth. 5. Administration and Compliance Ensure departmental operations meet safeguarding and health & safety regulations. Collaborate with the school's SLT on staffing, budgets, and school-wide strategic planning. Manage departmental resources efficiently. Profile BacheloraEUR(TM)s degree in Arabic Language, Arabic Literature, or a related field (required). MOEHE teaching license or eligibility to apply. Additional qualifications in educational leadership (desirable). Fluency in English is mandatory Child safeguarding trained Minimum 3 years of relevant experience Meet professional teacher education requirements of school Must hold a current Enhanced Criminal Records Bureau Disclosure, or equivalent, for countries lived in outside of the UK Skills and Abilities Knowledge In-depth knowledge and understanding of School curriculum (National Curriculum - Secondary) and associated assessment methods Up to date curriculum developments Application of effective teaching and learning theory and practice of providing effectively for the individual needs of all children (e.g. classroom organisation and learning strategies) Proven leadership and management skills A leader of teaching and learning Experienced curriculum and team leader Minimum 3 years of teaching Arabic at secondary level, including IGCSE and A-Level. Experience working with the Qatari Ministry of Education or similar regulatory body (preferred). Proven track record in curriculum design and leadership. Skills The ability to develop good personal relationships within a team An effective and experienced communicator (written and verbal) to a variety of audiences High level of IT competency Deep understanding of Arabic language pedagogy, national education frameworks, and British international examination systems. Bilingual in Arabic and English. Effective communicator, leader, and mentor. Strong organizational and data analysis skills. Ability to inspire both staff and students.
