Ground Operations Manager Abu Dhabi

Based in Abu Dhabi

Purpose of the position:

The primary role of the position is to supervise ground operations on the dedicated airports in the network of Wizz Air Abu Dhabi and manage the setup of new locations.

Responsibilities:

• In line with regulations is responsible for management and supervision of ground operations:
• Ensuring that ground handling operations and activities are conducted in accordance with the conditions and restrictions of the AOC and conducted in compliance with the applicable regulations and standards (CAR AIR OPS);
• Implementing and maintaining Safety Management System by performing Safety Reporting, Safety Risk Management, Safety Performance Measurement and Monitoring, Management of Change processes within his/her functional area and Emergency Response processes within his/her function in the Crisis Management Organisation.
• To participate in Air Safety Board and ensure that any non-conformities and/or safety improvement actions are addressed and closed in accordance with Wizz Air satisfaction;
• Ensuring that the management of all third party contracts for ground handling operations is carried out in compliance with all operational, security and health and safety requirements;
• Management of safety risks and security threats to aircraft operations as relevant to his area of responsibility;
• Ensuring that safety, security and compliance issues are reported in a timely manner;
• Coordinating and following up that every issue related with the Compliance Management System of the company (handling of crew and third party reports, reviews/inspections performed at stations) is carried out in proper order.
• Implementing and monitoring corrective and preventive actions for all issues relating to security and health and safety procedures to prevent reoccurrence;
• Ensuring that all ground operations personnel are made aware of all information in the ground operations manuals relevant to their function;
• Actively promoting safety by ensuring that SMS is fully implemented in his area with consultation with internal and external stakeholders. Promoting an open, non-punitive and just reporting culture;
• Lead and manage the start-up operations of all new stations;
• Liaise with Airport Development and Purchasing Department to ensure that services of catering suppliers, fuel suppliers and handling are available as required; representing Ground Operations Department internally and externally;
• Supporting cost management for ground handling-related costs and analyses of expected/unexpected deviations
• Manage the ground handling team in activities across the network as required;
• Ensuring the ground operations activities are performed in compliance with management commitments.
• Maintain timely contacts with other departments within Wizz Air and to outside organisation and contractors in relation to their tasks and responsibilities;
• To liaise closely with Wizz Air marketing to ensure that all signage at airports in line with Wizz Air marketing strategy;
• To liaise closely with airport management to ensure that Wizz Air best interests are served in relation to any airport developments;
• Maintain up to date the compliance and accuracy of all documents (Ground Handling Manual, Station Orders, procedures, etc.) related to the area of Ground Operations and ensure all Ground Operations Managers and subcontracted handling partners are trained to its Safety and Compliance Standards;
• Ensure provision of safety, security and compliance training for supervised staff (in the scope relevant to their functions).
• Setting goals/targets to the supervised staff, managing competence and performance assessments.

Requirements:

• Completed university or college degree is a must
• Appropriate management experience, preferably in a comparable organisation
• 5 years of relevant work experience of which at least 2 years should be from the aeronautical industry in an appropriate position
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills
• CAR AIR OPS knowledge is a plus
• Business mindset and ability to synthesize information into recommendations
• Good oral and written presentations skills
• Team work and strong interpersonal skills
• Fluent spoken / written English
• Ability to live and work in Abu Dhabi
• Flexibility to travel as required.
• A self-motivated individual with demonstrated capacity for ownership, and responsibility
• Ability to work independently with strong drive towards exceeding the set goals
