Job Summary

This Company is currently looking for a skilled Supercritical Water Gasification Scientist to join the Oil Upgrading & Lubes Team in our Research & Development Center (R&DC). This team plays a crucial role in the development and enhancement of unconventional, conventional, and cost-effective technologies for upgrading crude oil and its fractions.

As a Supercritical Water Gasification Scientist, your main responsibility will involve taking the lead and actively contributing to both new and ongoing projects that utilize hot and compressed water to convert oil into valuable products. These products include hydrogen, light olefins, and upgraded fuel. Your expertise and innovative approach will be instrumental in advancing our capabilities in this field and driving the creation of valuable products from oil resources.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage and execute research and process development projects under hot and compressed water conditions, such as supercritical water gasification of liquid feedstock and plastic derived oils. This includes activities planning, stage gating, funding, budgeting, sourcing, and workforce management.
  • Expand capabilities through innovative internal and external research in areas related to pyrolysis, renewable fuels, gasification, and other relevant fields.
  • Utilize project management tools to set work objectives, define experimental scope, and ensure timely execution of projects to achieve sound technical solutions.
  • Mentor engineering and technical staff in the application of fundamental chemical principles.
  • Investigate new and additional analytical tools for non-routine tests, near-real-time, and real-time process chemistry analysis.
  • Design, set up, perform safety reviews, and execute lab and pilot plant scale experiments and programs focused on supercritical water gasification and upgrading with various feedstocks, including crude oil, residue, condensate, and plastic waste.
  • Develop reaction kinetics, investigate reaction mechanisms, and evaluate reactor hydrodynamics.
  • Conduct process simulations and optimizations for the overall process and individual process steps.
  • Create material and energy balances, process flow diagrams, piping and instrumentation diagrams, and develop process design data for system components.
  • Develop and optimize process configurations, collaborate with engineering partners for equipment sizing and material selection for technology scale-up.
  • Engage in technical negotiations and direct communication with customers and internal business stakeholders to explore potential R&D projects and develop new business cases for technology implementation.
Requirements:
  • This role required candidate to permanently relocate at Dhahran, Saudi Arabia.
  • Master\'s Degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, Physics; a PhD is preferred.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience, including technology development and process design/engineering related to gasifier operation and supercritical water gasification technology development. Demonstrated scientific/technical record of achievements and capabilities in utilizing hot and compressed water, including supercritical fluids.
  • Extensive experience in high-temperature and high-pressure experiments, process design, and scale-up involving hot and compressed water (e.g., supercritical water) with or without catalyst for gasification of liquid feedstock and plastic derived oil to produce valuable chemicals such as Hydrogen, light olefins, and improved fuels.
  • Strong hands-on skills and knowledge in the necessary chemistry, kinetics, fluid dynamics, and catalyst to effectively conduct research work.
  • Effective communication skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving, including seeking cross-functional technical expertise when needed.
  • Proficiency in providing written technical reports or delivering presentations on technical work to various audiences.
