Our client is a manufacturer of high-end tools and components for a variety of markets and applications, their key product focuses on Industrial Tools like hydraulic pumps, cylinders, valves and bolting. Reporting to VP Global Procurement they are now looking to hire a Global Category Manager in their Dubai offices in the UAE. The ideal candidate should lead and drive category teams to ensure the successful development and execution of category strategies. Be accountable for the category performance and responsible for the overall pro-active stakeholder and commercial management of assigned areas of spend within the General Services Category. Contribute to the development and execution of global and regional sourcing strategies which are innovative and drive competitive advantage for the Group, resulting in significant EBITDA contribution. Align and drive performance for all subject managers, ensuring that Procurement strategy, ambitions, savings, and objectives are achieved. What the role entails:
  • Responsibility and accountability for a procurement spend totalling approximately: $60-80m
  • Full accountability and high autonomy in execution of role and significant influence across the regions
  • Proactively engage and manage key senior stakeholders within the business in the General Services area
  • Drive the review of the relevant expense that align to the main areas of indirect spend:
  • Legal, HR, IT, Finance, Consultancies, Marketing and Sales, Travel and Entertainment
  • Understand the nature of such expenditure with the objective of optimization and cost reduction by way of supply, demand, governance or compliance actions, expense and demand management
  • Identify saving opportunities and initiate individual projects/initiatives at country/regional/global level
  • Obtain endorsement and support for the category strategy with stakeholders to execute on key strategic procurement or other supply chain initiatives that will support efficiency cost reduction or risk mitigation
  • Collaborate and support countries in their execution of initiatives aligned to the global category strategy
  • Manage supplier risk to establish a stable supply chain that allows the Group to provide uninterrupted services
  • Own and drive the overall global cost reduction and supply risk management for the Category
  • Act as the cost challenger for the Group for the categories managed
  • Commercially responsible and accountable for the category, leading cross-functional teams
  • Drive and manage target setting and monitor results for the category, and ensure that all ambitions and objectives are effectively cascaded and achieved at the regional and local levels
  • Ensure that the category contributes to the HSSE ambition
  • Ensure that the objectives of sustainable procurement are achieved in own category
  • Ensure application of strategic procurement processes (including e-Procurement tools) across the category by deploying innovative procurement strategies, leveraging the innovation potential of stakeholders and suppliers
  • Drive the implementation and realization of supply efficiency, quality, and process improvements within the Group
  • Ensure that the category team has a formal charter that governs, establishes measurement criteria, and creates clear roles and responsibilities, and ensure the team has formal project strategies that are integrated and in alignment with stakeholders.
  • Engage and work with the stakeholders to produce a needs assessment that is aligned to their business plans, resulting on a pipeline of procurement activities
  • Align stakeholders through focused change management programs
  • Ensure the implementation and tracking of performance indicators and achieved results
  • Provide regular reports and updates to stakeholders as required
  • Consolidation and coordination of needs/data for global tenders
  • Implements regular category workflow reviews to ensure all stakeholder requests are being owned. Any gaps to be escalated to line managers
In return you will bring:
  • Graduate in Marketing/Supply Chain/Procurement or equivalent with 5-8 years of purchasing experience
  • Indirect spend experience a must
  • Experience in different geographies and working with different cultures
  • Certification as a CPM, CPIM or CSCP a plus
  • Proven performance in managing and developing an international team in a global or regional procurement function (or equivalent), with requisite drive and energy to ensure challenging benefits and capability of building an agenda is successfully delivered
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Multi-lingual skills (English included) would be preferred
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) is required
  • Technical credibility to challenge/influence internal stakeholders and strong understanding of the spend categories and cost drivers to challenge stakeholders and suppliers
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact in a cross functional environment with various departments, employee levels in the organization and with suppliers
  • Resilient, determined and able to work under pressure and with ambiguities, conflicts and adversarial relationships
  • Able to multitask and work independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Proven ability to assess potential and risks associated with supplier and market changes, and integrate with category and sourcing strategies
  • Proven ability in analysis and interpretation of data
  • Proven ability to identify opportunities quickly, make sound judgments, establish, and implement solutions
  • Must be able to work effectively in a team environment; understand and actively support the value of teamwork
  • Consistently demonstrate attention to detail and strives to achieve high quality results
  • Demonstrates ability to work against deadlines in supporting company goals
  • Expert negotiation skills
  • Experience in Supply Chain and Business Application Systems (Oracle ERP systems is a plus)
  • Result oriented and able to influence change
  • Strong communication skills and ability to influence effectively at all levels
  • Ability to build and contribute to influential networks
  • High degree of ethics and personal conduct
  • Ability to contribute to all facets of project life cycles with the initial focus on HR and Financial Services, Travel and Entertainment, Marketing, IT
  • Regional/Global business travel may be required in this role (up to 50%)
