Job Description

Basic Function The Geo-Consulting Manager would be responsible for leading and growing the Geo-Consulting practice, providing quality advisory support to the organization and reporting deliverables. Key Accountabilities:
  • Work closely with the Commercial team and Service Line Managers (locally and in the region as required) to develop Fugro activities and long-term relations with Clients;
  • Review project requirements, prepare proposals or provide advice on proposal preparation by the commercial team on large projects;
  • Develop innovative approaches and value propositions to address client challenges, positioning Fugro as a preferred contractor/supplier with a strong understanding of the competition;
  • Grow team and geo-consulting activities, deliver unbiased advice to address client problems by combining Fugro’s multiple services. Key KPIs are geo-consulting profitability and client satisfaction;
  • Ensure quality of geotechnical deliverables, with the support of a Geo-Science Manager responsible for day-to-day activities and coordination of geologists;
  • Supervise Junior grade team members on projects and direct implementation of appropriate techniques. Resolve and perform independently complex engineering assignments with innovative solutions. Supervises moderate to complex field investigations, and assists Junior level professionals in the completion of assignments;
  • Show initiative as part of the role in all duties and set an example as necessary for the team members;
  • Establish and maintain long-term relations with clients and business partners. Identify and develop engineering and geo-consulting service opportunities with clients;
  • Promote development of expertise by suggesting and contributing to internal innovation projects, preparation of technical publications, and delivering presentations at relevant industry events;
  • Be updated with and actively contribute to the implementation of published Quality Assurance, Health, Safety and Environmental procedures in the workplace
Qualifications / Skills / Experience required:
  • Master’s Degree or higher education in Civil Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering;
  • Minimum 10+ years of practical experience in a similar role;
  • Self-motivated, pro-active, committed and flexible with strong problem-solving skills;
  • Good Commercial understanding and capable of developing innovative solutions;
  • Willing to travel to and work at the site if necessary and work effectively in a multi-cultural environment.
Role specific Technical Competencies required:
  • Consult extensively with a high degree of reliance placed on scientific interpretations and advice;
  • Direct team members or individuals assisting on projects. Mentor performance excellence and adherence to quality standards;
  • Knowledge of site characterization techniques and geotechnical interpretation work, environment and water management (surface and resource), monitoring program, and big data management;
  • Experience with soil and rock mechanics, and geotechnical engineering principles;
  • Stay abreast of current professional standards, periodicals, and technological advancements. Maintain meaningful involvement in professional organizations (Chartership, Professional Engineers);
  • Detailed experience with computational geotechnics packages (Plaxis, FLAC), excel spreadsheets and exposure, 3D modelling (Leapfrog/Micromine), and GIS (ArcGIS/QGIS). Exposure to VBA/Python programming and geotechnical monitoring works is preferred.

  • Planning & Organizing : able to set priorities and determine actions, time and resources (tools, software, people, and budget as appropriate.) to achieve pre-defined goals. Monitor and manage timely delivery, leading to reliability and client satisfaction.
