What Does a General Manager - Refinery Operations Do?
- Lead refinery setup, operations, and optimization aligned with corporate energy strategy
- Serve as the key liaison between the refinery management and the board of directors
- Drive cost efficiency, sustainability, and product quality in all operational aspects
- Ensure compliance with environmental and safety standards in the oil and gas industry
What Are the Key Responsibilities?
- Provide strategic and operational leadership in the establishment and daily operations of the refinery
- Serve as an advisor to the board, reporting on refinery performance, market trends, and capital investment decisions
- Define strategic direction for refinery operations, risk mitigation, and long-term growth planning
- Oversee the implementation of process improvements and new technologies to maximize output and profitability
- Ensure full compliance with safety, environmental, and industry regulations
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams for planning, design, construction, and start-up of refinery projects
- Foster a culture of operational excellence, teamwork, and continuous improvement across all departments
- Manage budgets, financial performance, and KPI tracking for refinery operations
What Skills Are Needed for This Role?
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, or a related field
- Master's degree preferred for strategic leadership roles
Experience:
- Minimum 10 years of senior management experience in the oil and gas sector
- At least 5 years of direct experience managing refinery operations
- Strong track record in refinery design, commissioning, and operational excellence
- Background in large-scale infrastructure or industrial development projects is a plus
Skills:
- In-depth technical knowledge of petroleum refining technologies and industry standards
- Strong leadership with the ability to guide cross-disciplinary teams
