To plan, deliver, and evaluate training programs for
Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) Operations Level
responders in accordance with
NFPA 1072
,
NFPA 472
,
OSHA HAZWOPER
, and
local Civil Defense
requirements. The trainer ensures learners are equipped with the knowledge, practical skills, and certifications required to recognize, contain, and operate safely in hazardous material environments.
Key Responsibilities
Training Delivery:
Deliver
HAZMAT Awareness and Operations Level
courses following
NFPA 1072:2017
,
NFPA 472
, and
OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120
standards.
Teach core topics including:
Identification of hazardous materials using placards, SDS, ERG
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Levels A, B, C, D
Decontamination procedures and zones
Spill control, containment, and vapor suppression
Emergency response planning and risk-based decision-making
Team-based operations in hot, warm, and cold zones
Conduct practical exercises in simulated HAZMAT scenarios (e.g., chemical leaks, flammable vapor release, transportation accidents).
Curriculum Development:
Develop and maintain lesson plans, course materials, assessment tools, and visual aids.
Incorporate international best practices, UAE regulations, and updated HAZMAT protocols.
Align content with Civil Defense or client-specific standards.
Assessment & Certification:
Administer pre- and post-course written and practical assessments.
Evaluate participant competencies and issue certificates in line with accredited bodies (e.g., NFPA, Pro Board, UAE Civil Defense).
Safety & Compliance:
Ensure strict adherence to safety procedures during live exercises and equipment use.
Maintain, inspect, and manage HAZMAT training equipment (gas detectors, PPE, containment kits).
Update content based on emerging threats, new chemicals, or revised national codes.
Client Engagement & Customization:
Customize training for different industries (oil & gas, aviation, marine, logistics).
Participate in tabletop exercises, drills, and mock incidents as part of client preparedness programs.
Required Qualifications:
Certified
NFPA 1072 / NFPA 472 HAZMAT Operations Level
Instructor.
OSHA
HAZWOPER (Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response)
Instructor Certificate (preferred).
Train-the-Trainer or recognized instructional qualification.
First Aid, CPR, or EMS certification is a plus.
Experience:
Minimum
5 years
of operational experience in HAZMAT response (fire department, industrial response, or emergency services).
Minimum
2 years
of experience delivering professional training at Awareness or Operations level.
Experience working with oil & gas, industrial sites, or high-risk sectors is strongly preferred.
Key Skills:
Expert understanding of hazardous materials classification, chemistry, and response procedures.
Strong instructional, facilitation, and scenario-based training delivery skills.
Skilled in using SCBA, detection devices, chemical suits, and containment tools.
Proficient in developing emergency response plans and decontamination protocols.
Preferred Attributes:
Bilingual (Arabic and English) is advantageous.
Familiarity with UAE Civil Defense accreditation processes.
Physically fit and capable of leading live simulations in full PPE under heat and stress conditions.
