TRAININING DETAILS:
INTRODUCTION
This training programme on the Principles, Applications and Performance of Pumps, Compressors and Turbines provides a practical overview of rotating equipment commonly used across process, petrochemical, and oil & gas industries. Participants begin by exploring the fundamentals of fluid behaviour--pressure, head, flow, and system losses--before progressing to pump, compressor, and turbine designs, their components, performance characteristics, and operating principles. The course also addresses best practices for operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance to enhance reliability and reduce downtime.
Key learning highlights include:
Strengthened understanding of fluid flow principles
Optimised operation and maintenance of rotating equipment
Improved troubleshooting confidence to prevent recurring failures
Enhanced ability to control maintenance costs by avoiding unplanned outages
TRAINING OBJECTIVES
By the end of the programme, participants will be able to:
Explain key fluid mechanics concepts relevant to rotating equipment
Identify different categories of pumps, compressors, and turbines and their terminology
Interpret and use pump performance curves and system requirements
Operate pumps and compressors at or near their design efficiency
Describe turbine types, components, and performance characteristics
Troubleshoot common issues in rotating machinery
Apply sound principles for equipment selection, operation, and maintenance
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
This programme is ideal for:
Technicians and Operators
Graduate and Junior Engineers
Mechanical and Process Engineers
Plant and Maintenance Engineers
Instrumentation and Maintenance Specialists
Technologists and Facility Operators
Supervisors, Team Leaders, and Project Leads
It also benefits anyone seeking to update their knowledge of pump, compressor, and turbine technologies and apply effective operational and maintenance strategies.
TRAINING METHODOLOGY
The course uses a blend of presentations, simulations, case studies, practical exercises, and guided discussions. Real-world examples help reinforce core concepts, while hands?on problem?solving promotes deeper understanding. Participants receive digital and printed course materials for future reference.
TRAINING SUMMARY
Participants will gain comprehensive insight into the behaviour, performance, and maintenance of pumps, compressors, and turbines in diverse operating conditions. The programme equips them to design and implement proactive maintenance approaches, improve equipment reliability, and minimise failures.
Key outcomes include:
Understanding of reciprocating and rotating equipment operation
Ability to assess equipment condition
Improved communication with equipment vendors
Skills to specify and select new or replacement equipment
Enhanced capability to troubleshoot rotating machinery
