Job Description

A fit-out and joinery draftsman is responsible for creating detailed technical drawings for interior fit-out and joinery projects, including shop drawings, cut lists, and as-built drawings. They work with various materials and trades to ensure accurate and efficient production and installation.

Key Responsibilities:

Creating detailed shop drawings:

This includes drawings for partitions, ceilings, flooring, MEP coordination points, furniture layouts, and various joinery elements like wardrobes, doors, and kitchen cabinets.

Producing cut lists:

Accurate material cutting lists are essential for efficient fabrication and installation.

Preparing as-built drawings:

These drawings reflect the final installed state of the project and are crucial for record-keeping and future reference.

Coordinating with other trades:

Draftsmen must ensure their drawings align with and integrate with mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems, as well as structural elements.

Managing revisions and changes:

Adaptability is key, as drawings may need to be revised due to site conditions, material availability, or design changes.

Following up on production and installation:

Draftsmen may need to visit the site, liaise with the workshop, and ensure the drawings are accurately interpreted during production and installation.

Quantity take-offs and BOQ preparation:

Some roles may also involve calculating material quantities and preparing Bills of Quantities (BOQ).

Using industry-standard software:

Proficiency in AutoCAD is typically required, with experience in SketchUp, 3D Max, or Cabinet Vision considered an advantage.

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

Technical drawing skills:

Excellent drafting skills are fundamental, including the ability to produce accurate 2D and 3D drawings.

Knowledge of materials and construction methods:

Understanding of wood types, veneers, hardware, and various joinery techniques is crucial.

Experience in interior fit-out and joinery:

Proven experience in the UAE, particularly with high-end commercial projects, is often a requirement.

Communication and teamwork:

Effective communication with designers, site teams, and other trades is essential.

Problem-solving skills:

Ability to identify and resolve technical issues related to construction and fit-out is important.

Familiarity with local regulations:

Knowledge of local authority requirements and as-built drawing procedures is often necessary.
