We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented fire protection engineer with a strong focus on fire system maintenance to join our team in Ras Al-Khaimah. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the continuous operational readiness and compliance of all fire protection systems within our facilities. This role involves developing and implementing maintenance programs, conducting inspections, overseeing repairs and upgrades, and ensuring adherence to local and international fire safety codes and standards.
Responsibilities:
Maintenance Program Development and Implementation:
Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive preventative and corrective maintenance programs for all fire protection systems, including fire alarm systems, fire sprinkler systems, fire suppression systems (gaseous, foam, etc.), fire extinguishers, fire pumps, standpipe systems, and emergency lighting.
Establish maintenance schedules based on manufacturer recommendations, relevant standards (e.g., NFPA, local codes like UAE Fire and Life Safety Code of Practice), and operational requirements.
Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities, inspections, testing, and repairs.
Inspections and Testing:
Conduct regular inspections and performance testing of fire protection systems to identify deficiencies, ensure functionality, and verify compliance with applicable codes and standards.
Oversee third-party inspections and testing, ensuring that findings are addressed promptly and effectively.
Analyze inspection and testing reports to identify trends and recommend proactive maintenance measures.
Repair and Upgrade Oversight:
Supervise and coordinate repair and maintenance work on fire protection systems performed by in-house technicians or external contractors.
Review repair proposals and ensure that work is carried out to the required standards and specifications.
Manage and oversee the planning and execution of upgrades or replacements of fire protection system components or entire systems.
Compliance and Regulatory Adherence:
Stay up-to-date with the latest local (e.g., Civil Defence, Municipality) and international fire safety codes, standards, and regulations.
Ensure that all maintenance activities and system modifications comply with these requirements.
Assist in preparing documentation for regulatory approvals and inspections.
Technical Support and Troubleshooting:
Provide technical guidance and support to maintenance teams and other stakeholders on fire protection system-related issues.
Troubleshoot system malfunctions and provide effective solutions to ensure minimal downtime.
Participate in incident investigations related to fire protection systems and recommend corrective and preventative actions.
Budget Management:
Assist in the development of the annual maintenance budget for fire protection systems.
Monitor maintenance expenditures and ensure cost-effectiveness.
Training and Awareness:
Develop and deliver training programs for relevant personnel on the proper operation and basic maintenance of fire protection systems.
Promote fire safety awareness throughout the organization.
Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation, including system drawings, manuals, inspection reports, maintenance records, and correspondence.
Prepare regular reports on the status of fire protection systems maintenance and compliance.
Collaboration:
Work closely with other engineering disciplines, facilities management, safety teams, and external contractors.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in fire protection engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field.
Minimum of 05 years of experience in fire protection engineering with a significant focus on maintenance and inspection of fire protection systems.
Strong knowledge of local (UAE Fire and Life Safety Code of Practice, Civil Defence regulations) and international fire safety codes and standards (e.g., NFPA).
Familiarity with various types of fire protection systems and their maintenance requirements.
Experience in conducting fire protection system inspections and performance testing.
Proven ability to diagnose and troubleshoot fire protection system issues.
Excellent project management and coordination skills.
Strong communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
Proficiency in relevant software applications (e.g., AutoCAD, MS Office Suite).
A valid UAE driver's license may be an advantage.
Preferred Skills:
Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification in Fire Protection Engineering.
Certification from relevant fire protection organizations (e.g., NFPA certifications).
Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS) integration with fire protection systems.
Knowledge of risk assessment methodologies related to fire safety.
