Job Description

This position is located in the Security Section within the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), Kuwait. Under the overall supervision of Principal Security Adviser and Chief Security Officer/Deputy Principal Security Adviser, the Field Security Assistant G6 reports to Deputy Security Adviser Operations on all security related to operation and administrative matters. Responsibilities
Within the delegated authority, the Field Security Assistant will carry out the following functions:

  • Manages security and access control measures at UNAMI- Kheitan facilities.
  • Performs preliminary investigations regarding all incidents / accidents involving UNAMI staff and/or property in Kuwait and submit to SIU promptly.
  • Collects comprehensive security related information from reconnaissance sources, analyses it and ensure dissemination to UNAMI staff as appropriate.
  • Manages Personal Protection requirements for SRSG, DSRSG and UN VIPs.
  • Liaises with other sections/units in order to provide adequate physical security measures for UNAMI-Kuwait facilities and activities conducted by UNAMI Iraq Kuwait.
  • Maintains Zone Warden System, Floor Warden System of Kuwait and keep update of the daily head count of staff member and visitor who entering the compound.
  • Maintains Radio Communication with UNAMI station, UN agencies and zone wardens.
  • Supports UNAMI / UNSMS Iraq missions to Kuwait.
  • Conducts fire and safety inspections and assessments of UN Kuwait facility and relays promptly to UNAMI Fire Officer.
  • Conducts fire drills for introducing floor wardens, routes and assembly points.
  • Conducts building evacuation exercises regularly and share reports as required.
  • Coordinates with Fire and safety Unit in BAG and Local Fire Brigade to train SSI (Kuwait) on firefighting methods and procedures.
  • Conducts warden exercises involving staff and wardens throughout the country.
  • Maintains an up to date security clearance system.
  • Recognizes and procure appropriate security equipment for all offices.
  • Produces contract performance report as required.
  • Trains UNAMI staff members on the use of radios and other communication means.
  • Conducts training on firefighting systems available at the UNAMI Kuwait facility.
  • Maintains security awareness among UNAMI staff members through security notice platforms and advisories.
  • Updates and maintain all relevant security SOP\xe2\x80\x99s.
  • Maintains and update Hotels risk assessment.
  • Produces and keep updated Area SRM and ad hoc SRMss as per DSS guidelines.
  • Produces weekly, monthly and management reports.
  • Participates in Iraq SMT, Kuwait SMT, FSC-I, FSC-Kuwait, General staff meeting and monthly SSI meeting.
  • Contributes to the Area Quarterly Reports regularly in a timely fashion.
  • Conducts daily security briefing for Operation unit, admin unit and PremSec unit.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job - Specific Qualification Completion of the UNDSS Security Certification Program, is desirable. Work Experience A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in security services with a military, police or private security company is required.

Experience in Physical Security, Guard Force, CCTV coverage in the private sector or in the United Nations Common System is desirable. Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required, knowledge of Arabic is desirable. Assessment Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
