Job Purpose

A Draftsman specializing in infrastructure projects plays a key role in the design and planning stages of such projects. Draftsman is responsible for creating detailed technical drawings and blueprints, assisting in the development of construction documentation, and ensuring that design concepts are accurately represented. They work closely with engineers, architects, and senior draftsmen to produce precise drawings that guide construction processes.

Responsibilities & Duties

Drafting and Design:

Create accurate technical drawings, blueprints, and construction documents based on the design concepts provided by architects and engineers. Use computer-aided design (CAD) software to produce these drawings.

Detail Development:

Work with senior draftsmen and project teams to refine design details and specifications, ensuring compliance with building codes and project requirements.

AutoCAD Proficiency:

Utilize CAD software, such as AutoCAD, to produce drawings and maintain proficiency in drafting software to stay aligned with industry standards.

Site Surveys:

Assist in site surveys to gather measurements and data for creating as-built drawings, making sure drawings accurately reflect existing conditions.

Collaboration:

Collaborate with project managers, architects, engineers, and other team members to incorporate design changes, resolve issues, and ensure that the design intent is accurately represented in drawings.

Quality Control:

Review and check the accuracy of your drawings to ensure they meet project specifications, quality standards, and legal regulations. Rectify errors and discrepancies as needed.

Documentation:

Help create and maintain a comprehensive set of construction documents, including plans, elevations, sections, details, and schedules, ensuring they are organized and up-to-date.

Materials and Specifications:

Assist in specifying materials, finishes, and other construction details in the drawings to ensure they accurately represent project requirements.

Construction Support

: Provide support during the construction phase by addressing inquiries, making revisions, and helping interpret drawings to ensure that construction aligns with the original design.

Software and Technology:

Stay informed about the latest software and technology trends in the industry, and adopt new tools or techniques to enhance drafting efficiency and accuracy.

Communication:

Maintain effective communication with project stakeholders, addressing their concerns and coordinating efficiently to ensure project success.

Education Requirements

- Bachelor's degree in architecture, engineering, or a related field.

- Professional Certifications are a plus.

Work Experience & Skills

- Extensive experience in infrastructure project drafting.

- Proficiency in CAD software, especially AutoCAD.

- Strong knowledge of construction codes and regulations.

- Attention to detail and precision in drafting work.

- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.

- Ability to work in a collaborative team environment.

- Leadership skills for mentoring junior draftsmen.
