Job Purpose
The Research Institute of Sciences and Engineering (RISE) is seeking to hire a full-time geomatics engineer to assist research activities in the remote sensing and GIS center. The position requires the ability in operating various land surveying equipment and remote sensing systems. The candidate is expected to have experience in obtaining and processing a broad range of geospatial data, using a variety of geospatial software, tools, and approaches, and can manipulate and manage large datasets. The successful candidate must be highly motivated, show initiative, can work both independently and as part of a team, and possess the ability to continuously learn new technical skills as needed.
Main accountabilities & expectations
The successful candidate is expected to have the capacity to:
- Collect ground truth data using the latest surveying equipment and sensing technologies (i.e., GNSS receivers, spectroradiometer, laser scanners, thermal cameras, total stations, etc.)
- Acquire very-high-resolution (RGB, multispectral, and thermal) images using different unmanned aerial vehicles (fixed-wing and multirotor)
- Build geospatial (both raster and vector) and non-spatial data from a variety of sources for various earth-related applications.
- Implement various machine learning/deep learning models to classifiy remotely sensing datasets (i.e., very-high-resolution satellite images, UAV images, and LiDAR data).
- Prepare effective thematic maps, manuscripts, proposals, and reports
- Work in interdisciplinary teams and support researchers and graduate students

Preferred Qualification & Experience
1. Bachelor\'s degree in Civil engineering/ geomatics/remote sensing and GIS (Master degree preffered)
6. Ability to acquire, process multi-source and multiemporal remotely sensed data.
7. Fluent in English language 8. Must be willing to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required
- Minimum five years\' work experience in surveying, GIS and remote sensing
- Ability to operate various land surveying and remote sensing equipment

Competencies
- Programming and modeling skills (Python/R)
- Experience in image processing, statistics, and machine learning to apply and develop novel machine learning frameworks for different earth-related applications.
- Familiarity with various types of scientific data and machine learning frameworks.
