Job Purpose
The University of Sharjah seeks to hire an Assistant/Associate Professor of Linguistics or Applied Linguistics to start in August 2023. The position requires a PhD holder in Linguistics or Applied Linguistics or a related area of specialty. The candidate must demonstrate an ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, such as Arabic-English Translation, Semantics, Linguistics & Translation, and language skills courses. The candidate should also have a solid record of high-quality publications relevant to his/her qualification.

Main accountabilities & expectations
- Teaching 12 credit hours to undergraduate and postgraduate students per semester,
- Contributing to the university core curriculum,
- Supervising graduation projects,
- Supervising MA theses,
- Contributing to various committees at the department, college, and university levels,
- Contributing to the research profile of the department & college through innovative and interdisciplinary research publications,
- Contributing or leading activities related to program accreditation and quality assurance.
- Being an active member in the department, college, and university communities and other responsibilities as assigned by the Head of the Department.
Job Specific Accountabilities
Required Skills
Good communication and computer skills.
Preferred Qualification & Experience
- PhD in Linguistics or Applied Linguistics from a recognized and accredited university by the UAE Ministry of Education.
- A minimum of 5 years of teaching experience after obtaining the PhD in in Linguistics or Applied Linguistics.
- Evidence of an earned Associate rank from a recognized and an accredited university (If obtained).
- Evidence of relevant research published in Scopus indexed journals.
- Experience in teaching Arabic-English Translation, Semantics, Linguistics & Translation, and language skills courses.
