We are hiring on behalf of a leading utilities contractor for an experienced and innovative Design Engineer to lead the design components of major urban infrastructure projects.
In this role, you will manage the design of multiple utility systems, applying relevant regional standards, whether UK, Irish, Australian, or US, for water (both potable and wastewater) and electrical infrastructure. You will contribute to multidisciplinary projects that include mechanical, electrical, and civil engineering elements such as MEICA works, HDD installations, and other non-invasive methods. Your expertise will also be applied to the design of structures like reinforced concrete and steel-framed facilities within the water and power sectors. Budget monitoring, support for cost reporting, and assistance with claims documentation from a design perspective will also form a key part of your responsibilities.
This is a client-facing role, where you will serve as a key point of contact to ensure design objectives align with broader project goals and timelines. You will be responsible for reviewing technical drawings, identifying opportunities for value engineering, and ensuring design solutions are efficient and cost-effective. From concept to detailed design, you will manage design packages and coordinate with environmental consultants, archaeologists, and specialist subcontractors. You will also play a central role in developing initial project timelines with planning teams and providing leadership within the design function. The ability to work independently, communicate effectively across teams and stakeholders, and deliver high-quality outputs under pressure is essential to succeed in this role.
What You'll Need:
Minimum of 3 years' experience in a similar role within the utilities or construction sector.
Strong background in civil, drainage, water, or power-related design projects.
Excellent time management, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
Strong communication and interpersonal abilities to work across multiple teams.
Ability to take initiative and manage workloads under pressure.
Full, clean driver's license is essential.
Relevant engineering qualification is highly desirable.
