Job Description

Core responsibilities

Review patient records:

Extract relevant information from patient charts and other documents to accurately represent the services provided.

Assign codes:

Translate dental procedures into the correct standardized codes, such as Current Dental Terminology (CDT) codes.

Ensure accurate billing:

Prepare and review billing claims to ensure they are accurate and can be submitted for reimbursement from insurance companies.

Liaise with dental professionals:

Communicate with dentists and other staff to clarify information, resolve discrepancies, or provide guidance on coding.

Maintain compliance:

Stay up-to-date with coding policies, guidelines, and regulations to ensure the practice remains compliant.

Perform audits:

Conduct internal audits of charts and records to check for accuracy and compliance.
Required skills and qualifications

Strong analytical skills:

The ability to review complex information and identify the correct codes.

Excellent communication skills:

The ability to effectively communicate with both healthcare providers and insurance companies.

Coding proficiency:

Expertise in relevant coding systems, such as CDT.

Technical skills:

Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) systems and billing software.

Attention to detail:

Meticulousness is required to ensure the accuracy of patient records and billing information.

Education:

Often requires a bachelor's degree and a professional certification like CPC or equivalent.
