Job Description


Purpose
The Data Analyst plays a crucial role in supporting our analytical capabilities and insight delivery within GEMS Corporate Office (GCO). Providing vital support to the analytics team and leading the development of analytical solutions. The role requires a mixture of attributes, which include excellent technical skills with the ability to deliver insightful analysis through the development of analytical solutions and the ability to cover a wide range of different assignments across the group.
The role focusses on the development and implementation of data and insight products and the development of analytical solutions with a focus on data preparation and manipulation, developing and maintaining dashboards and helping the team meet the growing demand for actionable insights.
Key Accountabilities

  • Support the planning, development and implementation of internal and external datasets to ensuring adequacy, accuracy and legitimacy of data to enable the production of analysis and reports
  • To develop products to support the analysis of data and inform strategic decision making within GEMS.
  • Support the design and maintenance of data systems and databases; this includes fixing coding errors, cleaning and prepping data and other data-related problems.
  • Carry out data mining from primary and secondary sources, reorganizing said data in a format that can be easily read by either human or machine.
  • Collaborating with colleagues to identify opportunities for process improvements and recommend system modifications.
  • To produce research and analysis using internal and external data to facilitate and inform the production of a variety of reports highlighting trends and issues, generating insight to identify what our data is telling us, what this means for the organisation and how to improve the performance of our schools and departments
  • To support their line manager in researching and evaluating new data analysis software solutions and, assess their potential value to the organization.
  • To support the teams work across SSC departments to improve the impact of our analytics and increase the value of our data.
  • Research, review, quality assure and when agreed implement systems, processes and tools for benchmarking and analysing data across schools and internationally to ensure the organization keeps at the forefront of educational excellence.
  • Manage ad hoc projects, monitoring and reviewing progress against agreed milestones and deadlines, reviewing risks and, addressing and escalating issues when required.
  • To keep up to date with research and changes in frameworks so that work is informed by the latest findings and information.
  • To work closely with colleagues across GEMS to ensure that work is joined-up and focused on organisational priorities.
  • Liaise and collaborate with internal expert advisors, other GCO department representatives, and external developers and stakeholders.

Skills
Expected Qualifications & Experience
A relevant background with either a degree and/or exposure to statistical analysis, experience of using some or all of the following packages: MS Excel, SQL, Power BI, Alteryx, Azure, MYSQL, and Salesforce.
Excellent analytic and problem-solving skills, with experience applying these skills to prep and analyse large, complex and multi-dimensional data sets
Self-starter and problem solver who is willing to roll up his/her sleeves.
Experience of creating and presenting information and analysis clearly and concisely to colleagues at all levels, developing data stories that engage and inform stakeholders and clients.
Experience of data preparation, data quality checking and advising on data issues.
Job-Specific Knowledge & Skills
  • High-level proficiency in the use of MS Excel, MS Power BI, MS Azure
  • Experience of using Alteryx
  • Ability to create and extract complex data from spreadsheets and databases.
  • Experience of supporting users with ICT and data interpretation.
  • Self-starter, capable of working under minimum supervision.
  • Demonstrate a high level of accuracy and attention to detail when producing analysis and reports.
  • Excellent core professional skills, (General strategic skills, experience in business processes, compliance with business policies, PC skills).
